Title: Automatic sliding pocket door
Post by: jlfreund on June 08, 2008, 09:49:21 pm
Sorry for the totally off topic post -- I've been a longtime reader and contributor and figured with the heavy traffic and DIY home project atmosphere that some reader might know something that could help me.

I've been trying to find information about how to build an automatic sliding pocket door (that uses a little button rather than a motion sensor) for a kitchen pantry.  I've googled and googled, but haven't found any clues about how to buy or build one -- just lots of companies that make heavy industrial and commercial products.

Has anyone built or seem something that uses hydrolics or an electric motor or something to slide a small pocket door open and closed with a "whoosh" sound?

Thanks,
Jason

Well a simple way would be to use 2 small motors and string push of a button winds the string up on the motor and when the sliding door gets to a point it pushes a switch that turns the motor off and flips the outside switch to turn the other motor on which same thing winds up the string which unwinds the other string from the other electronic motor and then when closed pushes a switch to stop the motor and flip the outside switch to open the door again.

Could all be run of AA's aswell

Thats a quick and simple way i can think of another way would be to use 1 motor and a track system that pushes the door back n forth fliping the motor to reverse when the doors open

So you want a Star Trek door?  I did a search for Star Trek door, and found this pretty cool video.
