I want one really bad to do a multi williams project, but its dead, guy says cab is 8 out of 10.
Being the cheap sob that I am, I think price is high for a dead machine.
What do you guys think.
-
It'd depend on why it's "dead". Bad power supply? Monitor work or not? If it does work, what about burn in? I think it would require more info on what dead means.
-
If the cab and associated artwork is in good / great shape .. and the rest of the machine is present, even if not working, I think that is not a terrible price for a Defender.

He says.....
It powers up fine and gives the familiar Williams bzaaaawwn sound. The boards LED's blink twice which means they test out ok. There is no picture and it doesn't play blind. I replaced fuses and that's all
-
I'd buy it.
Monitor probably needs repair, and check the wiring to the controls.
Does it make any sounds if you press the test buttons on the inside?
-
If the cab really is 8 out of 10, it's worth it.
Replacing the monitor isn't that expensive.
Something else to look at though is are you planning to do a full Multi-Williams kit (artwork and all)?
If you're looking to replace the artwork anyway, paying for good artwork seems kind of pointless to me.

Wave $150 cash at him in person and see if he bites. I would say if the cabinet is truly in almost perfect shape, then bite the bullet and pay what he is offering - but be critical and point out any flaws. And don't be so certain the boards are fine. They are only working if you can play the game blind, and even then may have an issue...
-
I got one with bad sideart for 25...
if its dead... 90% should be artwork, you will not want to redo this... Everything else is pretty replaceable. heck, the joysticks seems to be everywhere these days. The control panel hard may be replaceable... Marquee with scratches when the light is on is annoying.
but for that money, I would expect a near perfect (especially on a quick look) artwork...

...heck, the joysticks seems to be everywhere these days.
Can you be more specific? I've got a Stargate I'm restoring I need a joystick for.

Peale what do you need?
I have some 2 way joy parts in a box somewhere.
Let me know.
As far as the Defender goes I have not gone to look at it ..........Yet
I know if I go to look .....I will want to buy it. So I am doing my best to resist temptation, I have galaxian cab that I am converting to a multicade, and when I flip that I will have some extra cash.
But I think it's still too much for a non working game, 150.00 and I'd jump (only cause I want one)but I doubt he will go that low, he said he bought it for 400.00 and that sounds about right ballpark anyway.
