Title: How good of a PC do I need for a Jukebox?
Post by: shredso on June 04, 2008, 09:20:53 pm
I just bought a 15" touchscreen off ebay and I plan on making a jukebox.  Because of the touchscreen I suppose it would be pretty cool to have some of the crappy bar games, are those emulated in MAME?  I have an old AMD 800mhz I was hoping to use, will it be good enough?  I haven't researched the software too much, I just want the most idiot proof one out there that hopefully uses and looks like the one at bars.

Ed.

Midway's Touchmaster 7000 is emulated in the latest mame and that will be your best bet. As for jukebox software there is a big list stickied here and also a list in the wiki. You will probably be best trying all the touchscreen compatible ones and see what you like.

I use WinCab and SkJukebox on a 400mhz Celeron 256mb. They both run great.

If you want to run music videos on it then you might need a faster computer I guess

I have run music videos on a second monitor using freebox on my PIII 700mhz 128mb ram panel PC running XP Pro. Anything lower than that i couldn't say, although i know music plays fine on a PII 400mhz. However i would asume the specs for running mame and Touchmaster might be higher.

if you are going to run videos on your jukebox, I would recommend any computer with 2.0Ghz processor or highter specs, and at least 512MB of RAM and a videocard of at least 252MB of video. I have a P4 1.7 and can run emulators just fine including a Jukebox program (party jukebox) I will be upgrading to virtualmusicjukebox eventually just because videos dont run as well as I would like them to run. if you are not going to run videos then almost any computer that supports XP would do the job.

Those specs are way to high for minimum specs  ::)

Agreed.  I'm running video on a PIII with 128 M RAM.
