Title: I need GPWiz MAx help w/MAME
Post by: hero_zero on June 02, 2008, 12:29:54 pm
I am one of those that is trying to figure this stuff out as I go and have run into a snag that I cant get past.

I am building a MAME machine and am using a GGG GPWizMax USB as my encoder.  My CP has in it the following:

2  8-way JS with 6 buttons ea
1 and 2 player buttons
1 and 2 player coin buttons
Trackball
Spinner
2 buttons for the trackball and spinner to share

I have the GPWizMax and the Opti-Wiz boards to help me connect this stuff.  I have so far successfully wired and use player 1 JS and 6 buttons.  I have wired JS#2 and buttons also but cannot figure out how to get MAME or my FE software (GameEx) to recognize them.  Additionally I need help figuring out how to get the P1 and P2 and the 2 coin buttons to be recognized.  I have wired the JS#2 as buttons 9-12 and the 6 buttons on JS#2 as 13-18.  PLayer 1 and Coin #1 buttons are buttons #8 and 9 and player #2 button and coin are buttons 19 and 20.

For the Opti-Wiz, I have only wired up the Right and Left buttons and they seem to work well as I use the left button to fire in Tempest while using my mouse to move in the game.  I am still trying to figure out how to wire up the trackball and spinner to the Opti-Wiz so help here would be appreciated too.

I have to warn you all that I do not really understand all the axis and cfg file stuff, as I said, I am a ntotal novice and probably should not have taken on such a project but I have jumped in with both feet and there si no turning back at this point.  GameEx seems to work well.  I am running MAME32.

Anyone able to help me?

You'll need to start mame, load any game and hit tab on your keyboard. Then go into "Input (General)" and remap the player 2 controls to match your control panel. Do the same for player 1 & 2 coin and start buttons.

In mame only player 1 controls are mapped to a gamepad by default.

Dunno how to explain the opti-wiz to you, weren't there instructions on how to wire it?
