Title: Guitar Hero III Wii -- Surround patch
Post by: ahofle on June 01, 2008, 04:55:06 pm
Has anyone else sent in their Wii GH3 disc for a replacement due to the audio issues in the first batch?  I received mine a couple days ago and I am not impressed at all with the new 'dolby surround'.  It sounds like 99% of the song comes out of the center channel and the other 4 are barely audible.  I definitely have my receiver configured correctly (even my GC games sound better).  It sounds more mono now than before LOL.  Also the notes are now 'lagged' compared to before replacement (ie the music is a bit ahead of the notes so you have to be 'late' on every note to hit it).  I had to go into the video options and calibrate the 'video lag' because I was sucking it up initially.  It's a good thing they included that feature.  The one bonus to sending in the disc for replacement was that they sent a free guitar 'skin'.  :banghead:

I sent for the replacement package. This was over a month and a half ago. HOw long did you wait until you got yours and how long until you got it back?

I think it was right about a month turnaround actually.

Umm, what? A month to receive the package or a month to get the fixed version? Or both?

Oh I see what you're asking.  I think I got the self addressed envelope within a week or two.  Then less than a month after that to get the disc.  You should probably call them.

No, I preffer not to exchange it after all. IGN was right when they said they didn't notice it wasn't surround until it was mentioned. It's no big deal that its not surround. I could live with it. Besides I'm starting to do the expert mode. I hadn't played the game in a while but now doing the expert mode its fun again.

I'm in the same boat.  I prefer to just hold onto the imperfect copy.  I do have the Wii hooked up to the surround-sound but I find that I don't bother turning it on 99% of the time.

I do see that the process is pretty much the same as when I had to exchange the two Back to the Future discs because of incorrect framing issues with II and III.  That was definitely noticeable.   I remember it took close to a month to get the corrected discs after all was said and done.

I was debating on whether or not I wanted to be without my disc for that long. If it's going to be possibly a month+ and there's not that big of a difference, I'll keep it (even though I got the envelope a while ago.) I wasn't bothered by the mono (like everyone else, I didn't even notice) so no big deal.

I did the exchange and couldn't be happier.
Star Power no longer sounds to ... "overpowering" and the audio is even.  By even I mean that the music long seems to skip rhythm guitars.

You also get a "skin" for the guitar...nice touch.  It came a week after the replacement disc (three weeks for the disc).

Regards.

Yeah that made it worth it.  And you're right now that I think about it in regards to the star power audio.  I'm just disappointed in the 'surround' improvements.  They could have made it so much wider.
