Hi,
Just my tribute to Frostillicus's "Illustrator tutorial"
As Frosti could say "share, share and share...."
I've put some illustrator files (either .ai, either .eps) files on line here http://edeveaud.free.fr/ (http://edeveaud.free.fr/). that I'm willing to share with the BYOAC members
I've focused on classic characters, pac man, dragon lair, burger time, megaman.
Donkey Kong is under work ;)
NB The site is slow as hell, if you could mirror the files, please do it.
Will it be possible to introduce a vectorial section, under the artwork section of arcadecontrols to host those kind of files ?? (Saint this point is yours)
Hoppe you will find it usefull
Eric

You sir are a man among men!
I tried to trace using Illustrator. Unfortunately, I suck. No, I mean it. I really, really suck.
Now if someone has "vectorized" some of the Marvel characters, and was willing to make them available, I might finally finish the artwork for my overlay.
Thanks for sharing.
-
I had intended to attempt this (and still may do others)
Great job! Thanks for the beginning. Hopefully we can start a really nice archive!
Whats an EPS file BTW? Excuse my Noobousity! :P
-
EPS = Encapsulated PostScript
IIRC, it was created by Adobe and was for work that was going to be printed on a postscript printer. I thought they were used mostly for drawings & line art like logos and such.
If I'm wrong I'm sure some of the graphic professionals here will give me a correction.

EPS is an Encapsulated PostScript file, kind of like a pdf type format for graphics (only older, I believe). You can import it into just about anything, and is much more useful than an AI (illustrator file) since not everyone has that.
I saw these after he made them and must say that zorg did an excellent job vectorizing these popular characters.
slightly OT - how hard would it be to implement some type of vector shape library? - I have some stuff, I know some people have other stuff (such as this thread). Over time it could be a really cool resource.
-
As for the "vector shape library" that's a great idea.
In his original post Zorg asked Saint if he wanted to create a repository for these type of files. I don't know if Saint wants to or has the space to. I'm hoping if he doesn't then somebody who has a good hosting plan can make these files and others, including yours (your Akuma and Mike Bison vectors in the tutorial are excellent), available for download.
-
Thank's guys.
I hope some vectorial repository will be available one day, and I'll be glade to contribute.
and for mccall, point me to some good resolution and enough detailled marvel characters, perhaps I'll give a try. ;)
-
The only really good Marvel pics I could find were at Fighters Generation:
http://www.gamegen.com/main.htm (http://www.gamegen.com/main.htm)
They have a page that lists characters by game and a page that lists them alphabetically. They also have some good SNK and Capcom characters pics there as well.
Here's a page that has some good Capcom and SNK character scans:
http://www.angelfire.com/games4/shingotink/Gallery/CvsS2/SNK/page_02.htm (http://www.angelfire.com/games4/shingotink/Gallery/CvsS2/SNK/page_02.htm)

Well, I'm in the process of building a page to hold this resource. I have a web server sitting here with 120 Gigs of open space, connected to a 2M fiber line with no bandwidth restrictions.. I'll have the pages setup in an hour or so.
Here's the layout I'm thinking, uploads require at least two files, either AI or EPS (or both) AND a jpg of the file. That will allow the system to automatically add them to a download gallery when they're uploaded without my needing to check everything. It will allow only files of these types to be uploaded and file size will be limited to 1Meg.
The main rule I'm going to have is if anyone claims the copyrights to any images on the site, they'll be removed no questions asked. I don't have the time or energy to verify who owns what. (or the funds to battle a corporation over pac man images, but unless they say something I don't have a problem with them being on there)
Any other suggestions?
-
That sounds perfect.

great
fill free to get the archive I've made, did you prefer that I sent it directly to you, if yes give me a mail. next to come will be donkey-kong + the lady + mario and of course the burning barrel ;)
-
Ok, the basics are up. I'll finish it up tonight after work stops getting in the way. In the meantime you can go to http://www.mametrixreloaded.com (http://www.mametrixreloaded.com) and go to the graphics page.
I don't have any duplicate name checking in there yet, so before you upload take a look at what's already there and if the filename is already used please use another one.
zorg - your original files are already there.

great thank's hope people will upload a lot a vectorial stuff, there's 120 Gigs to feed ;)
-
well, if you tried to upload, you'll see I managed to break it last night.... I'm adding in a credit area so we know who contributed what. I'll fix it this morning.
-
ok all fixed, including checking to see if the filename already exists, and a place for a creators name. Just as soon as I find the CD's with them, I have a ton of vector art I used to use with my vinyl cutter.
Although they're not arcade related, I'll add them to the pot in case someone needs them.
At that point I'll probably add search functions as well as categories.
-
well, this tribute certainly has evolved. I'm going to add categories now to aid in the searching which will be added later. I'm looking for suggestions on what categories to use.
There will be a main and a sub for each graphic.
Here's what I have so far (and it's not much)
arcade
classic
sci-fi
comic
misc
logo
corporate (coke, namco, etc)
sci-fi
comic
misc
misc
Any others I'm missing?
-
I just checked the site, gosssh, great it begins to fill, thank's guys
remember the objective is 120 Gigs ;D
Any others I'm missing?
I think the site should just contains characters, logo etc...
eg the needed pieces to do your "quite own graphics", arrangment could change a lot and gives a touch of personality, but not ready to use as is graphics.
but on the same time I'm thinking about some orignal repro marques or CPO, for the shake of restoration or authentic feeling
is this a acceptable idea
-
I don't really know about logos - they are available already on the granddaddy of eps sites: LogoType (http://logo.nino.ru/) I'd hazard a guess as that's where a few of those already came from. Example1 (http://logo.nino.ru/main/?text=konami&id=135) Example2 (http://logo.nino.ru/main/?text=konami&id=135) Example3 (http://logo.nino.ru/main/?text=Atari&id=135)
Otherwise I could upload to your site the dozens of logo's I've already downloaded from LogoType :) Seems too redundant, IMHO. I say stick to arcade stuff/characters.
-
oo thanks, I was just about to post asking for good logos :)
-
nice link frosty...thanks
-
yea, a bit redundant, but I'll give you two guesses where LogoType got them from. :) You almost had it but said it backwards.
I created a lot of this stuff when I was dig into the vinyl cutting and sign making scene. Started a business and decided the return was too small for the effort.
Left to it's current layout adding the logos and repro stuff would get out of hand, but once I get the menu system down for it, browsing and finding what you're after should be easier.
I'm looking at it this way, acceptable company logo's would be those for the arcade industry (used to make repro artwork for restorations) or those related to the games themselves, ie Star Trek, Star Wars (just don't tell George), etc.
I have no desire to duplicate LogoTypes site or the (recently closed :( )beltonsigns site, but I don't mind being a "one stop shop" for related items. I know that for myself, I hate having to jump from site to site to find bits and pieces when I need something.
If it gets too big or out of control, I'll deal with it when or if it happens.
-
HI folks.
just added DonkeyKong and the lady to http://edeveaud.free.fr (http://edeveaud.free.fr) and to the vectorial repository set up by Mametrix-Reloaded. in AI and EPS format
mario is in work, be patient ;)

I can't seem to get on to
http://edeveaud.free.fr/

rigth it seems free is not responding :'(
go to http://www.mametrixreloaded.com (http://www.mametrixreloaded.com) and check the graphic section.

bump.
just to say that popeye and some related stuff is now available... ;)
chek the vectorial library
http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/graphicsdown.php (http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/graphicsdown.php)
-
I have been thinking about doing some popeye stuff. ;) You have seem to beat me to the punch (no pun intended) several months ago. We definitely need more classic characters in the library. Nice and clean by the way ;D
-
silly question, but is there any real difference between the *.ai , and *.eps files on the site?
I downloaded "Morrigan by Frostillicus" in Both ai, and eps format, and whilst the shortcuts to the files said
http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/art/store/Morrigan.ai
and
http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/art/store/Morrigan.eps
both files saved as *.ps files to my hard drive (so I had to rename the second one:-)
Anyways, in Paint Shop Pro they both opened as the *.ps files they saved as and they seem to be functionally identical.. am I totally missing something?
any explanation would be almost as awesome as the artwork I've been seeing here..:-)
ttfn,

Anyway - perhaps there should be a note at the top that says to rename the extensions to AI or EPS, depending on what you download. OR, we submit one zip with both version in it...that could be smaller than the EPS alone. Just a thought - I'm happy with it the way it is now, tho.

(aside: Yes, -Zorg-.. I read the whole thread, and I understand what was said.. it did not, however, answer my question. So... again for the kids at the back..)
What I'm getting at here is this; it doesn't matter which link next to 'Atari_logo_1.jpg' that I click:
"http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/art/store/Atari_logo_1.ai (http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/art/store/Atari_logo_1.ai)"
or
"http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/art/store/Atari_logo_1.eps (http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/art/store/Atari_logo_1.eps)"
I download "Atari_logo_1.ps" through both links..
not "Atari_logo_1.eps"
or "Atari_logo_1.ai"
but "Atari_logo_1.ps"
why bother with two links to two *imaginary* files for each image?
why not just have one link to the 'Atari_logo_1.ps' file for the Atari_logo_1.jpg

bad system change your system ;)
the 2 files XXX.ai and XXX.eps are not the same thing, and not "imaginary" files ;)
one the .ai are the internal illustrator format (kind of pdf)
the other one are encapsulated postcript format.
we provide ai files as the native files, and eps files to allow people who are not using illustrator to get acces to the files. but if you insist we could remove the eps ones.
just look at this
bulgroz:tmp/graph > wget "http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/art/store/Atari_logo_1.ai"
08:34:41 (76.20 KB/s) - `Atari_logo_1.ai.1' saved [82013/82013]
bulgroz:tmp/graph > file Atari_logo_1.ai
Atari_logo_1.ai: PDF document, version 1.4
and now
bulgroz:tmp/graph > wget "http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/art/store/Atari_logo_1.eps"
08:39:29 (54.78 KB/s) - `Atari_logo_1.eps' saved [20532/20532]
bulgroz:tmp/graph > file Atari_logo_1.eps
Atari_logo_1.eps: PostScript document text conforming at level 3.0 - type EPS

kay, I open M$ IE, paste http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/art/store/Atari_logo_1.eps into the address bar, and hit return....look at the dialog below.
-
True, but save that file and look at the properties. Then load the same link but with the .ai extension and save it. Look at the properties again.
The files are different, with the ai file holding information specifically for Illustrator.
It's a moot point anyway since the library is going away......
in its current form anyway.. :)
If you'll notice, you already can't link directly to the download page.
http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/graphicsdown.php (http://www.mametrixreloaded.com/graphicsdown.php)
I figure if I'm going to offer this up, mightas well make sure you guys see whatever paltry updates I do to the rest of the site.
Very soon you'll have to register (free of course) to upload files and will be able to manage your own files as far as updates. I will also be taking away the .ai and .eps files, and making it one zip file for each graphic.

you're right! 82,013 bytes vs 20,532 bytes
so they are separate and distinct files, (...I appoligize...:-)
I wonder why they wouldn't download as their proper file extension.. instead of having the extension changed to '*.ps' somewhere between clicking the link, and the d/l dialog poping up.. weirds me out, that does..:-)

once again, bad system, change system ;)
just kidding, but i guess it's something IE related.
but anyway, you got th files, it's the most important.

What is the status of the problem with the preview jpgs? Anyone else experiencing this with the vector library - it shows the akumas, the atari logo...nothing else. I hit refresh many times...no change.
-
Loads fine for me, but on also on dsl at work. Great looking omega race by the way. The library is getting huge or what!
-
Frosty,
I had the same problems with the library. Its only related to IE. I downloaded Firebird and it works like a champ. Kind of a pain to use two browsers, but, FB is only 6 megs.
-Tom
-
Yeah I don't use IE anymore. Just too buggy and slow for me. Using Camino instead.
-
:o emm, your site seems to be hacked. I hope you made a backup. :'(

Got a Galaga Bezel?

People i vectorized the 1941 letters and you can get it reaching "zorg's" site... ;D
Here! (http://edeveaud.free.fr/tmp/1941logo.eps) ;D

People i vectorized the 1941 letters and you can get it reaching "zorg's" site... ;D
it's not directly linked from the poor(est) home page.
its available thru http://edeveaud.fre.fr/tmp (http://edeveaud.fre.fr/tmp)
here's a preview
(http://edeveaud.free.fr/tmp/1941logo.jpg)
the files in the tmp directory, are hosted here as a convenient place, waiting that the vector library comes up
once the vector library will be available, the files willl disapear.
if you want me to host some vectorial stuff, i can share space.
-
Zorg!
Did you recived the files i've sent ya a couple weeks ago? Did you made something with them?
See ya ;D
