Title: What sandpaper should i use on plexi / lexin to smooth out and trim
Post by: mrclean on May 29, 2008, 01:14:19 am
I'm in the process of cutting plexi/ lexin and i already scored it, snapped it and broke pretty evenly, what type of sandpaper is recommended for smoothing this material out, along with I actually decided not to "snap" the other side which is imo too thin to snap so im going to use sandpaper to get it down to size, but its about 1/4'' of an inch any ideas ? the plexi size i think is .90 ? It's going to be used for my cpo, I'm still not done with button holes, track ball on the plexi, so knowing my luck i'll probably crack it, but if i don't i'm going to need help slicin' off that end piece

I'm no expert on this but I used the wet sandpaper, 600 grit (not actually wet for this), and it worked great, nice and smooth.  You might wanna play with some scrap though, which is what I did, experimenting with 60 grit for speed but it way too much, especially if you accidentally touch the surface area.  Even 400 is a little scratchy but not too bad if you go back over it with 600.

I just use a metal file.  Leaves a nice smooth edge.
