Title: When good resistors go bad ;-)
Post by: Arm123 on May 26, 2008, 12:26:30 pm
I have a quick question for those with more experience.

I had a monitor lose vertical deflection and give me a hrz line across the screen.  I looked around and discovered a FR, off the flyback, to a diode + la7831 had gone open.  The diode was fine.

I thought i should at least 'try' to just replace the resistor and try it.  It did actually work !

My question is...   There has to be a reason for it right ? Can a resistor just go open like that for no good reason ?

Just trying to learn something from this, so I’m 'open' to speculation.   :P

Yes, sometimes a resistor can just go open. If it goes bad again, replace the IC.
