Title: Another Newbie coin mechanism question
Post by: Fen on May 24, 2008, 08:05:22 pm
Hi all,

I'm in the UK, and I've just bought myself an old arcade cabinet. My friends and I are attempting to restore it with a hope to convert it to Mame use - I'm so glad to have found this forum, I'd have been lost without it! So many amazing ideas here.

The only thing I'm not really sure about is the coin mechanism that came with it; I've attached a few photos. Obviously I can see it's made by Mars and that it's digital, but apart from that I'm stuck! Can anyone identify it, or know of any documentation for it? I need to know how to wire this thing up to Jamma (eventually for use with an Ultimarc jPac); and also what all those switches do!!

Thanks for any help in advance,

Fen

the wiring is
yellow = +12volts dc
black  = common/ground
green/red = coin 1
the extra wires are a credit button bodge up

the switches are the coin per credit ratio

Hi again,

Thanks for that, seems to have done the trick for the board - pressing the small test credit button now adds a credit.

However, inserting a coin still gets no response. Looking at the base of the mech (see attached), there seems to be another load of pins; could these be to power the mechanism itself, separate from the board attached to it? If so, any idea how they all link up? I'm struggling to get the thing completely apart from fear of breaking it.

If not, is the mech just dead?

Cheers

the plug at the bottom is for an optional coin seperator which is normally found on fruit machines
your coin mech looks that old i would imagine its programmed for the old 10p and 50p,have you tried a 20p yet

you can pick up those mechs for pennies in the u.k

Aah ok thanks. Yes I've tried 20p, still no result - have a feeling it's probably broken. Before I go off and get a new mech from ultimarc, where else might I find one 'for pennies'?

Thanks again for your help!!

check the yellow pages and look for a local amusement operator or arcade and just ask them

Bizarrely, the coin mech started working today! It now accepts 10p, 20p and 50p coins; however, strangely it only adds a credit when the amount comes to 60p. Weird!

No amount of messing around with the 'price' switches seems to do anything...
Is there any way I can find out what each combination of switches is meant to do?

Cheers
