Title: New app: Jukebox Cover Manager
Post by: Lave Laar on May 24, 2008, 07:17:20 pm
Hi all

I've just released a new program called "Jukebox Cover Manager".
It's a program to download and manage cd-covers from various sites.
Currently supported sites: Amazon.com, Walmart.com & Buy.com

Program also supports the following functionality:
Multi-renaming of imagefiles
Create backup of the imagefiles with folder structure intact
Delete unwanted imagefiles directly from the program
Thumbnail view of all images in the selected folder
Open the current image in the imageeditor of your choice  with a double-click

I made it as the programs I found that was supposed to do the same thing didn't work
quite the way I wanted to, and besides it gave me an opportunity to practice working with
manipulating info from various websites.  It relies on folder structure alone for getting the
artist and album names. The program is still kind of beta, so it is what it is  :P

Download from http://home.online.no/~llindga (http://home.online.no/~llindga)

Comments and suggestions are welcome....

Lots of popups on the download site.  They know how to get around mozilla. :banghead:

I downloaded and installed it.  looks nice.  I tried double clicking an image (amazon01.jpg) and I get a message that the rename failed.  I haven't looked some more to see if I'm doing anything wrong yet.

Well... The popups are not mine  ::)  Probably something my ISP has put there  >:D  Tried to open the page in IE7 and didn't get any popups, and that was with popupblocker turned off  :dunno

The rename failed message is how it's supposed to work. If you double-click the thumbnail image it will try to rename that particular image to whatever set in the options screen. Defaults to Cover.  So if you already have an image with the name e.g cover.jpg in that folder, rename will fail.  To edit the imagefile you must double-click the large image.

I know the popups aren't yours.   just internet complaining ;D

I was trying to update an image with a better one.  So I'll just have to delete those first.  Maybe you could put an option to delete it first.

I'll check it out some more.

Thanks

I also diddent get any popups here, so you should scan with a spyware scanner?

The only javascript I saw on the page is the webstat counter to a external site (which is maybe blocked from my hosts file).

Diddent check this one. but it a nice app. A Auto rename and delete after a confirmed alert box would been nice.

A request would do some command line based (with artist and album as argument), that can been integrated by jukebox applications. But just a idea.

no the popups came from my browser.  these things are to be expected.  I wasn't saying the OP was a bad person, just being an internet jokester.

to my knowledge the software was spyware and virus free.

Got it.  Jack, you need to get the latest popup blocker for Firefox or update your version of Firefox.  No problems here.

Thanks for sharing your program (and efforts)

Thanks man,  glad you liked the program.  I appreciate the support.    I know it has saved myself a couple of hours in the download of covers :)

BTW.  How is the skin for STFE coming along, or did you abandon the project ?  It looked very promising...

Great app. I've used others, but this one does exactly what I need it to do.

Freebox started using small thumbnail support and bam this one does it, which is awesome.

The Url does not work btw and I want to test this new version. Which language did you wrote it in?

I really like how this use these sites as I want to see a similar application for Linux.

This because MultiFE is wrote in a language that exists to Windows as well Linux (and Mac). But I use Windows as my base development, but before final v2.0 version is released, it would been released to Linux as well with most features intact.

But I do like the standalone version, so when I update MultiFE domain, also add a link to this app on my homepage when the url is back.

@Kizer & Barry.  Thanks.
When I wrote the app it was to get covers to use with Freebox.  It has developed into a very nice jukebox-program

@SF. The url works for me.   :dunno  Is it still down for you?
The program is written i Delphi.
You could try the direct download at http://home.online.no/~llindga/Programs/SetupJCM.exe (http://home.online.no/~llindga/Programs/SetupJCM.exe)

download link works, but when I trying yoy main homepage I got this message:

Object not found! (not a normal 404 error page, but might have a costume one, etc the server exists).

I guess it might have due with wrong index filename, since the homepage is on linux server, which big and letter filenames is not the same, where Windows dosen't care about it.

minor visual bug found: when no coverart found the dimensions does not change since last coverart. It should been "not found" or such.

feature requests:
- support for png files, since some of my covers use this fileformat.
- There is no mean to "are you sure" boxes when double clicking on a image to change, if Cover.jpg or such not exists. I have these such of alerts boxes.

The homepage used "index.htm" as the startpage.  I've changed this to "index.html".  Does that make any difference?
What browser are you using?

When I select an album with no cover, JCM clears the main image view.  Does that not happen on your computer?

I will put in support for png files in the next release.

Not sure what you mean by this one.  By default the program will ask if you want to rename the files. It will also ask if you want to replace if there already is a file with the same name.  Does this not happen for you?  There are settings for this in Options->Program Settings->Image files.
Are you using Windows Vista?
Title: Re: New app: Jukebox Cover Manager
Post by: Space Fractal on September 12, 2008, 06:46:52 am
- Yes,  I use Vista Home, 64 bit version with 4 GB ram.

- I just meant these confirm boxes, when you trying to rename files. But it guess it might been Vista itself that do that, not your application (it does the same if you delete a file).

- The image view does clean as it should, it just the text field under the image that dosent change. so it completly a minor bug which dosen't harm the interface at all.

- Look like it some mis configuration on the server? I tried both IE7 as shown and Firefox v3.

- Only few I have did use png, so I created a jpg version of it also.

- What about a batch renamer file, that rename cover.jpg (some of mine use Cover.jpg, but should been cover.jpg) and renaming folder.jpg to cover.jpg or what you set at standard. Otherwice I could do that myself since it pretty simple in BlitzMax which I use.

Just tried JCM in Vista.  VmWare rules  ;D
If you don't want the confirm boxes, you can disable them under Options->Program Settings->Image files.  To disable the confirm box for delete you will have to disable the confirm message on the recycle bin in Vista.

I see what you mean with the dimension problem. I will fix that in the next release.

Have no idea what the problem with the web-page can be.  It worked fine under my Vista installation. (Vista business)
Does this URL work?  http://home.online.no/~llindga/index.html (http://home.online.no/~llindga/index.html)
Has anyone else problems with this?

The "Auto Rename" button renames all images to the name set in the options screen.  To enable the button you will have to click the "With exactly one image" in "Show folders".

To do what you want can be obtained by using a batch like this:
FOR /R "c:\mp3" %%a in ("cover.jpg") DO ren "%%a" Cover.jpg

I guess .htaccess is misconfigurated to only point to index.php as default site or someting like that, so you got that error page.

Since its on a linux server, the file is hidden, but can create the file and anddDirectoryIndex index.html on that and upload to get it work again:
http://forums.site5.com/showthread.php?t=10289

The most major pain, is Windows XP dosent like . as first char in the filename, but it 100% valid, since you can rename to that in a commandoprompt. But in Vista it seen they finally fixed that.

To the last http://home.online.no/~llindga/index.html works, but not http://home.online.no/~llindga

Nb:
- Found a "nice" spelling on your homepage? Welcom should been Welcome?
- http://webpages.charter.net/celamantia/jukebox in Jukebox page is gone and is changed to http://www.dwjukebox.com

I've created a .htaccess file and set the DirectoryIndex to index.html.
Does it work for you now?

That's great

Thanks for helping troubleshoot that problem. I've never heard of the .htaccess file before, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have figured that out on my own.
But then again, you're the web guru.  :applaud:

New version.
No major changes though.

*Added support for PNG images.
*Fixed a bug that would display image dimension for albums without images.
*Changed the elapsed timer to use the system time.
*Added a toolbar.
*Added size of imagefile to the display information.

Is your installer broke by chance? I have tried it on two seperate xp machines and then remotly logged into my fathers machine and tried installing it on his xp machine as well and nothing. If I double click on the SetupJCM.exe it just throws up a blank command window and then closes. Any ideas or do I need some other files in order to run?

Thanks so much Lave! your software is excellent!

Anyway I have linked to you from MultiFE links page, since I think you have some great applications, that is suitable for MultiFe as well Freebox and others.

countinue your great work.

I just tried this app for the first time. I've been using Album Cover Art Downloader (http://www.unrealvoodoo.org/hiteck/projects/albumart/) which works well but can be a little flaky (although I'm admittedly using an outdated version).

Some comments on Jukebox Cover Manager:

It's very nice. Fast and simple. Faster than ACAD. I like the Google image searching option. I really don't like the way that it automatically saves files to my hard drive when I use the "manual" button. It automatically saved a half dozen images that are not correct. I had to manually located and remove them. I'd prefer if it let me do a search, then pick the artwork I like best, and then deliberately ask the software save the artwork (preferably using a filename of my choice). Maybe a right click on the image gallery at the bottom could bring up a "save as..."?

It seems like it's designed for automation.

Thanks for trying out the program.
As for the manual search I'm not sure what you mean by manually locate and remove the files.  You can delete the files you don't want directly from the "image gallery" at the bottom.  If you want a particular name for the image you can double-click it an it will be renamed to the name set in the configuration.
ACAD was one of the programs I tried before writing JCM. I could never get it to work properly though.
However, I recently found another program to download covers called "Album Art Downloader XUI".  This is way more advanced than my own program.  In fact, I think it makes my own program obsolete.   :-[
That program works in a way I think you will like.  You can find it here (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=57392).

I'll try that one too.

I think I was a little confused about how your program works. ACAD does a search and says "this is what I found". Then you pick what you want from the search, and keep what you want. That's when the file is committed to disk. It seems like JCM commits what it finds to disk, and then I need to delete what I don't want in the gallery. I thought the gallery was like ACAD where it was just showing me what it found.

Clarifying what I said earlier:

I have some obscure Christmas albums that it could not locate the correct covers for. JCM searched and found 6 incorrect covers for one album. So I moved on to the next album to see what it could find. Later, I checked my directories on disk and I discovered that all 6 of the incorrect jpgs had been automatically saved. My observation is that I would not want to save them until I confirmed that they correctly matched the album. It sounds like I just need to delete them from the gallery before moving on. Not a problem now that I know.

Thanks for the response. Nice simple fast software. The way it should be. :)

Thanks for the program.  I just used it to rename about 475 cover art .jpg files in my mp3 directory to 'cover.jpg'.   They had been more along the lines of "Automatic For The People front.jpg".  Although most jukebox programs could be set to use the first image found, RhythmBox on my Linux pc wanted 'cover.jpg'.

I really appreciated that it would quickly identify any folders missing any image files, as well as the way it could report folders with more than one.  Very slick.  I tried doing a couple of obscure directories first, then worked my way up the hierarchy until I felt the app was safe and then let it do its thing.

For cover art, I still have to use Ebay and my digital camera for a lot of it.  Not a whole lot of 15-50 year old vinyl albums or cassettes on Amazon.com these days....
