I wanted it to look a lot like the original "Dragons Lair" marquee but I have been unable to recreate the flames. The original has such a cartoon style, and all the scans I have been able to find are bad and they have that bend in them because the cabinet didn't have a flat marquee. So i cheesed out and made some lines as a background. Any critiques or ideas appreciated. Thanks
I added the other one

The second one is way better but would need to be cleaned up.. maybe I have an idea have flames in the background, and have a dragon wrapping around your logo, im not good with photo shop but maybe this crappy sample would help others create it for you.. i think it would be cool if you would be able to get someone to draw a dragon squeezing the LAIR part of the text with its tail or claws, maybe having the daddy part burnt off or something i dunno here is my idea.. maybe hire pixel hugger or something

almost like a double dragon meets dragon's lair. Maybe instead of generic letters.. use dragon scales as your text.. don't ask me haha

Don Bluth artwork is drawn "disney" style. Forget trying to use PShop tricks to create them. Start with one layer of flat colour and then build the flames upon different multiply and screen layers. I personally wouldn't slap your "Daddys Lair" logo over orignal artwork as in marquee2 as you dont really need to "prove" your going for a dragons lair feel. Produce/scan/find some suitable Dlair artwork and then add your logo to it rather than the other way round. That way your cabinet artwork reflects your "arcade experience" and your cabinet. Rather than mimicking a classic cabinet as so many "montage artwork cabs" do. My £0.02

Thanks for the replies guys. Those are good ideas and your right. I should probably go for the DLair style over tryin to recreate the original marquee. I'll try that. thanks

Is that a font or traced wording ? if it's a font where'd you get it ?

No it's not a font, I just created the letters out of the existing letters. If you look at the lowercase "D's" they are just the "R's" from "Lair" turned upside down and then chopped. "A's" and "S's" were just shrunk. The "Y" was really the only tricky one, part "D","R", and "A" if you look closely you can see it. I'm actually suprised nobody has ever made a DragonLair font, that would be awesome.:)
