Title: Playing Guitar Freaks ROM using a Rock Band guitar controller
Post by: Timstuff on May 22, 2008, 05:50:29 pm
It's probably been done before, but I had an idea this morning that maybe it would be possible to somehow connect my PS3 Rock Band guitar to my PC, and use it to play Guitar Freaks on MAME. At first I thought I'd need a special driver to interface the guitar with my computer, but was pleasantly surprised that Windows recognized it right away. After several hours of tinkering to get Guitar Freaks to finally run, my idea turned out to be quite viable.

Up next (maybe): try to get Drum Mania to work with the Rock Band drums. ;D

There's not enough pads on a Rock Band controller to play DrumMania.  DM has two cymbals (hi-hat + crash/ride), snare, and two toms, for a total of 5 pads (plus the bass pedal), but a Rock Band drum kit only has 4 pads plus a bass pedal.

Yeah, I figured that. If I was gonna get Rock Band's controller to interface with Drum Mania, I'd have to MacGyver some solution for the extra input.
