Title: Another Mala Bug (Loadman)
Post by: slsimon on May 22, 2008, 10:15:51 am
I found out today that if you enable the "use mouse" option under options - controller - mouse, will disable any video play during Mala start.  Not only does the "use mouse" option conflict with the video preview, but the screensaver video option will not work as well.  This really limits the overall functionality (visually) of Mala.

I will be more than willing to take any suggestions and or configuration adjustments that anyone would like for me to try as to get both the mouse support (spinner - trackball) gamelist scrolling while also allowing for mala video start and screensaver to work.

Loadman, is either of these issues on the list to complete any time soon?

Thanks, Shane

Thanks Shane.

It is not Another bug. This is VERY MUCH a known issue.  ;)

It is one of the things I am working on. I ask for your patience as I am looking through code that was not written by me so it will take a while to work out how it all works.

Thanks  :)

Very good.  Was not sure if this was documented or not.  I thought the screensaver issue was but was usure of the mala video start.  Good luck with all the code.  If there is any testing that I can complete for you, please drop me a line.  Looking forward to the continuation of enhancements to Mala.  Just some minor issues, but overall, a very nice frontend.

Thanks, Shane

Awesome news!  Thanks Loadman for all your efforts.  I will be trying this out tonight.  Can you provide instructions as to how to update Mala with the new configuration while keeping the current configurations within Mala?  I would hate to have to reconfigure Mala properties after every update.  Also, not 100 percent sure on this, I recall that the screensaver would make Mala stop responding occasionally.  I am wondering if the "enable mouse" option played a roll with this as well.  I will be performing some testing later this evening once I hear back from loadman on how to properly update Mala without loosing current configs.  Thanks, Shane

Relax  ;)

The new version has not released yet but I was letting you all know that particualr bug had been squashed.

When you get the new version you can just replace the mala.exe and your settings won't be changed

Thanks for the prompt reply loadman.  Glad to hear you are making progress.  No hurry, just did not see the update on the Malafe site.  Was not sure if it was posted somewhere elese.  My stress level just went down,  :applaud:.  If there is any testing you would like me to do, shoot me an email.  Thanks, Shane

Hey loadman.  Do you want the good news or bad news first,  :dizzy:.  The good news is that I have been testing your beta 1.05 beta A release.  Many aspects of the bug fix release works while another does not.  The enable mouse option works while allowing scrolling through the gamelist with a trackball.  The screensaver successfully starts at the specified amount of milliseconds and with the enable mouse option enabled.

There is an issue though.  This was an issue for me with the previous release of Mala as well.  When you attempt to exit the screensaver to jump back to the gamelist via the exit assigned button or any movement of joystick or press of button, Mala stops responding.  One has to end task mala.

I could probably provide a screensnap of the Windows error message if you want.

I will await for feedback and continue testing when needed.  Thanks, Shane

Yeah .. :dunno

I don't get that problem on 3 PC's here. So is anyone else getting this?

Have you tried it on another pc?  It sounds like a local issue at a guess

Haveyou tried a Codec Cleaner and then just make sure that the XVID code is installed. No Divx !!!

A snapshot of the error message would probably help

Headkaze.  I will provide a pic when I am able to jump on the PC in question.

Loadman, I initially had the latest Xvid codec installed with my testing.  With that configuration, Mala would stop responding upon exit.

My current configuration has the beta A version of Mala with the Klite codec installed.  I used a codec cleaner before I installed Klite and removed instances of Xvid.  With the Xvid codec, I was receiving Xvid Windows error messages while browsing the Mala playlists.  If it's not one issue, it's another.  Errrr....  I suppose that in a way is the fun part of this project.  Working with you guys and trying to make the best of the software available.

Snapshot of the Windows error message to come soon.  Thanks, Shane

Attached is the picture of the error message at hand.  Thanks for all your guys help.

Also, here is the thread pertaining to the Xvid error I was receiving.  So I decided to work with the Klite codec and thus far, minus the exit issue, I am working great.

I noticed your running LEDBlinky in the background. Can you test MaLa without running LEDBlinky just to make sure it's not causing the error in MaLa.
