Title: MaLa background music static - Solved
Post by: Ummon on May 22, 2008, 03:35:22 am
I know this is supposed to be a bug, but it's happening almost half the time now, sometimes back-to-back exiting different games. I can't imagine everyone is experiencing this and just sitting on it. I recently did a fresh (from scratch) MaLa configuration, it didn't help. If anything it seems worse.

Also, is everyone getting all their pictures? I'm not. It's real random, but very few games I get all four pictures I have set (cabs, marquees, cpanel, and title).

The only bug I know of is NOT static. The know Background music bug is sometime it does not restart when returning from a game. I would be looking at your PC soundcard set-up

Don't know about that  one ??? I would be checking on a case by case basis that you have the relevant picture and it is labled correctly.

This may sound stupid, but check the audio connections at the back of your PC. I had the same problem and it ended up being a bad connection at the back.

@loadman: well, I always said static. Remember that I also said this sometimes, but not often, occurs in Windows Media Player. Maybe they're related?

@headkaze: I use headphones and have removed them several times, interchanging them with speakers. No change. I think it's software-related.

Basically, I have to either start a game or go into options and stop then start the track. Or select a different one.

A question on the jukebox: if I select 'gamelist like' in options, it shows all my files in the directory and sub-folders. If I select 'explorer like', it shows any tracks in the directory, plus folders in the directory - but shows few if any of the tracks in those folders when selected. Very random between folders, though mostly doesn't show tracks in them.

So has this stumped everyone?

If it's happening in Windows Media Player as well, I think we can safely rule out MaLa as the problem.

Perhaps it's a hardware or driver issue? Try uninstalling your audio driver, and download the latest driver from the web and install it. If it's onboard sound you need to visit the site of your motherboard manufacturer to get the latest driver from there. If it's a PCI sound card then you obviously go to the manufacturer's website for the latest drivers.

bass.dll have 2 mp3 engines: Using Media Player or Bass own. It mainly due for license issue or such.

Swindus (before the source passed over) might have choice's to select Media Player as the Mp3 engine. I never have such a issue using BASS own player. Default, BASS use own driver which here can been  codec/driver issue as well.

I also recommered to update bass.dll which newest version is 2.4. But dont update it, before tested it first. In MultiJuke I do "still" use bass 2.3. There might have few funtions changed, if you use a really old version.

I can't even get my background music running since I've moved to using a tree.  It's just grayed out under the tab.  I see my track in gray and under it, it just says "Stop".  Hmm.

This feature could even been removed and then instead move to a plugin? There exist such a plugin allready and have been expanded from the internal MALA sound. So it no real reason to use it directly, if it too buggy?

Possibly. The difference in frequency is WMP happens....I can't remember the last time. It's infrequent. In MaLa, it's 50% of the time, now. Like, not on start, but definitely after first game's exit. And it alternates every other game exited. I would also suspect a driver issue and I'll look into that. I just didn't know where I should approach first. Thanks, both.

Okay. I tried the bass.dll 2.4 and MaLa wouldn't even load. I tried installing a newer version of soundmax audio, and I got some error saying no driver could be found - yet, when I went to the mobo manu's site and got what they had, it said this was an older version than was already on the system, do I want to uninstall it? So I said yeah. Looks like that fixed things. Also, though I didn't mention this before, but though it might be related, the track shuffle is working more like it's supposed to. Good. Thanks.

You can't just update the bass, because some functions have been changed since (I use BASS myself in MultiJuke). It's a author choice to update bass and correct the changed BASS functions....

A Plugin can mightbeen fix that problem (like a new feature could been added in EmuWAV's plugin here).

I'll recap: (sort of) re-installing the audio driver fixed my problems here. Maybe it's just me but it seems to sound even better. So, this is wrapped up. Thank you for your assistance.

Just want to append this, or rather be more specific. This issue started happening again after I installed Soundmax (same as last time, I think). I'd forgotten what I'd done, and couldn't remember even after looking through this thread, and then I thought, hey, that's what's new. So I uninstalled this and sure enough no more static.
