I've been wondering if there were any people close to me on here. I'm over in Schenectady.
So do you have a MAME set up or are you a dedicated original kid of guy?
I'm currently working on 3 projects. At the moment not one of them is playable! :P
Anyways, I just wanted to say hello to another member from the Albany area.
-
Mom's side of the family is from Schenectady...
Evidently there are a lot of "Baldwin"s there...
-
Very cool! When I first came here I asked if anyone was close to Albany and didn't get any responses. I know there was a guy in Saratoga that had a mame cocktail. His name was Matt but I haven't heard anything from him in quite a while.
I'm building a mame cab. I brought it into the basement for the winter and got it playable. I'll be moving it to the garage soon to try and finish filling holes and doing the painting and sanding.
I also have a dedicated Rush N Attack that a friend of a guy I worked with had in his garage and was going to throw it out. It's a conversion cab. It originally was a Congo Bongo.
It's nice to meet you. If you need any help let me know and I'll do what I can.

We live in Hoosick Falls (about 45 minutes away) but my wife grew up in Ballston Spa.
-
Wow I graduated from Ballston Spa High school in 92! haha.
It's cool to know there's a few people around here building cabs! So the Rush N Attack was a freebie? If so I envy you. I almost picked up a free Centipede a few month sago but someone got there 10 minutes before me. Not much for free around here.
Glad to hear you're is up and running. I wish I had even one of mine playable. My upright is the closest to being completed. I got it up and running a few weeks ago and it was pretty awesome until my cat jumped on my yet to be secured control panel and flipped it off onto the floor. Needs to be redone now. So far this one has been a project of mine for over 3 years! If I had a garage I probably would have been done already.
I recently picked up an empty SF Rush sit down driving cab that I'm going to be turning into an Xbox driving cab this summer. I can't wait to get that one going.
I also have a Robotron Cab that was converted at least 4 times. I want to turn that one back into a Robotron cab running MAME for the break room at work.
I also have the parts to build a touchscreen jukebox. No idea when I'll get around to that one!
If I can help you out in any way let me know also. I have a lot of parts hanging around such as joysticks, buttons, and some other stuff.
And did you hear about the arcade museum opening in the old Coleco factory in Amsterdam sometime in the near future? I'm pretty siked about it. The guy has about 75-80 games already.
-
Sounds like enough people to get together for a meet sometime and share ideas or just show off your cabs. :)
-
The same thing was going through my head a minute ago!
I don't have to much to show off just yet! Give me a little more time and I'll be ready.
-
YES! A meet and greet would be cool. I don't have much to show either but it would still be fun. Exchange ideas and ask questions and such.
Yeah the cab I got was free. A friend of a guy I worked with was cleaning out his garage and didn't want it anymore. The guy I worked with knew I was building my own cab and asked if I wanted it. He even delivered it to my house. It was a great deal.
I'm also going to be building a jukebox. I've got most of the stuff already but my significant other says I can't build that until I finish the first project.
I have a few spare parts I've collected as well. My dream is to have a dedicated Tron cab one day.
There is a guy in Schenectady that has had auctions on Ebay trying to sell a Mach 3 sit down cab. It's also listed on sellfastandfree.com as well. The price isn't too bad and I'd love to build a sit down driving only cab but I don't know if I really have the room.
I haven't heard about the museum in Amsterdam. The only thing I've seen for that area is a guy trying to trade a mame cab for a harley. I see his ads on craigslist a lot.
I'll be out of town for the next couple of weekends but let me know if you guys would like to get together for a meet and greet.

I talked to him a couple of times on the phone. He actually has two Mach 3 sit down cabs. I've been thinking about one. I also and kind of interested in his Vapor sitdown game that he has. It is fully functional.
As far as meeting, that would be cool. Finally someone with a common interest! I also do Home Theater stuff and mod at an HT forum and always wanted to have an HT meet but there doesn't seem to be many in the area with HT setups, at least not on the forums.

I am in Syracuse. I would be up for a meet some time.
My build is playable. I need to do some finishing work. I also need to do the art work. I have a dedicated Rough Ranger that used to a StarGate. I also have an old Super Pac Man that was converted to Jail Break. The boards and power supply are gone. I am going to Mame it with a modular or changeable control panels. Latley I have been shopping my STTNG pinball machine. I just got it to my house. It has been at my dads for 10 years. This is the first time I have lived close enough to barrow a truck and get it. He is in Speedsville about 70 miles south of Syracuse.
A few weeks ago I was looking at a pin and the guy also had a pair of Atari Rush 2049 cabs that were linked he wanted $2700. I am not sure if he still has them. I am looking for a Star Trek Strategic Operations prefer the sit down, and a sit down Star Trek Voyager. I will eventually get them. I am also looking for a Tron.

I'm in upstate NY too - if there's a meet and greet count me in!

Hopefully that happens - I got my Hard Drivin cockpit from him, and it's 90% operational now. (I've been working on it off and on for a while now) I've almost fixed everything that was wrong on it - I just need to pick up a potentiometer for the steering assembly, and she's done!

Yeah I emailed him once and he said he had 3 of them at that time.

I remember you being in Syracuse from sending you a restrictor recently.
I'm in upstate NY too - if there's a meet and greet count me in!
Havok - Where are you located?
-
Albany - so, we all meeting at your place?
:D
-
Ok cool. I'm actually in Central Bridge near Cobleskill.
Meeting here? I don't know how the significant other would feel about that. *lol*
I'm not sure where we could meet.

I'd say my place... our kids all moved out and the house is big and empty and the wife wouldn't care but I'm probably way too far for everyone.
How about, um... an arcade? lol ;)
If there is any truth to the arcade 'museum' I'd say that would be a perfect place, even though it's probably a good hour drive for me. :(
-
I would probably drive to your place. Like I said earlier I will be out of town this weekend and next. How far outside of Troy is it?
I haven't heard anything about the museum except what has been said here about it.

The arcade museum is happening. I spoke with him in a few emails and on the klov board.
To correct what I was saying before... he has 90 games and wants to have at least 100 when he opens so he's close. Most of the games he has need repairs though. I can't imagine the amoun tof time he's going to have to spend to get all the games functional!
Here's a picture of the place with all the games in storage.

I would be into a meet up. The museum would be a great place but it looks like we'll have to wait a little while longer before he's open.
Unfortunately my place would not be good to meet up at even though it's somewhat central to all you guys. We just moved in not to long ago and we're not in a position to have a gathering here right now or in the near future.
We need to do it though sometime this summer at least.
-
I'm 23 miles from Troy, up near the VT boarder.
The museum guy... just a thought... he needs to fix these arcades right? We're into arcades... see where I'm going with this? Maybe some weekends now and then to help him restore them. If he's up for it then it would be a great learning experience and at least to me would be fun too. I an a network engineer now working mainly on Unix servers but I started out my career in electronics, so I know my way around circuit boards and soldering irons.
When I was younger, my first car ever was a Porsche 914. Not the most impressive of the family, but it was still a Porsche! I tricked it out with a slant nose kit and racing transmission and things like that. I hooked up with a German immigrant who was a certified Porsche mechanic and he did repairs out of his garage for a hobby. I was over there all the time helping him and learning a lot along the way. We built a pretty good friendship out of it too up until I moved. This sounds like it could be a similar situation and I bet he wouldn't mind the help either. I'm not talking every night or every weekend, just a weekend here and there we get together with him and help restore some of these machines.
Even if it's just putting T molding on or doing little things, they all take time off what he would have to do. Like I said the payoff would be getting exposure to a lot of varieties of classic arcade machines and I'm sure we'd learn a lot! Anyone game to see if he's receptive to this?
-
How did I miss this thread...I'm in Brattleboro, VT, which is like 70 miles from Troy.
Of course, with gas as much as it is, I'm not going anywhere I don't *have* to these days. Cost me almost $70 to fill up today. :(

That's a pretty good idea. I'm not that great with electronics but I'm good at the cosmetic stuff. I could also do some CP work as well.
I don't see why he would say no to getting some help.
-
Exactly, I can't see anyone refusing an offer of help, and any little thing that anyone can do is just that much less that he will have to worry about.
-
Warrensburg here
-
Sounds good to me - we should see if he would accept a bit of help. I am very familiar with Hard Drivin - I have fixed mine to almost fully operational status and I'm sure if his needed help I could do the same. Plus, I'd love to work on some other games too...
-
Okay so how knows him and can approach him on this? No way can he turn down free help with nothing asked in return except to learn about a variety of machines. Like I said, even if someone can only put in some new T molding, that's less work he'll have to do.
-
I corresponded with him a few times. I'll message him and get back to you guys.
-
I got a response from him. He offered to put together a game day and a meet up at his place!
Here's the message I got form him when I mentioned a few of us comign out to give him a hand.
"Sounds cool, At least for a get together if nothing else, Could be in my warehouse, Or my home, I have about 10-15 games there at all times, In for repair, but some are working, And I can bring some from the warehouse, I have a store front on the front of my house that I use for repairs, but could turn it into a gameroom for the day with out much trouble. "
So we should definitely get things together for a meeting this summer.
-
Sounds like this is going to come together and happen. :)
-
That would be neat. Pity I won't be able to make it. :(
-
Hey guys. Just got back from the holiday weekend. Sounds like good plans are being made to help get the Museum open sooner rather than later. I'd love to help do that. I'm not the best with electronics but I can solder ok. It would be a great learning experience.

Any word on the meetup? I know he is tough to get a hold of, so it may take some doing...
-
I've been wondering this myself. It's been quite some time since anyone mentioned it.
-
I haven't been working on anything game related for at least 2 months. So much to do in the summer and not enough time for the games. :-\
I would still be into a meet up but I honestly don't know if I could make it until the fall sometime.
I need to find out how the museum is coming along.
