Title: Win XP Performanc Tip

Hi Everyone,
I have feeling a lot of you probably already know about this WinXP trick but it was new to me so hopefully it will help someone else.  

1. Launch a mame game
2. Press Control-Alt-Delete.
3. Right click the mame process (not the frontend) .
4. Click "Set Priority".
5. Set the priority level to High or Realtime.
6. Close Take Manager.

This has cured almost all of my performance problems, especially sound.  Although, it is a pain doing this every time I run a game!

Or you could do it the "hard" way and turn on "high priority" in your mame.ini ;)

What is the exact syntax of the command?   I tried

highpriority             1

and it was rejected.

look in your mame.ini  If yo don't know what the mame.ini is then please consult the mame faq.

FWIW, setting processes to "Realtime" priority isn't that great of an idea.

It's high_priority in the MAME.ini file under video options (???).  I think it was just added in like 0.66 or 0.67 and it won't work in older MAME's.

Not in my mamepp.ini V .69 and I think I have read most faqs regarding the setup of mame.  If you had just typed your gotcha of Big Sir with the right syntax I would never have asked and you would have just received my gratitude.  Wouldn't have just be easier to say high_priority  1.  Thank you very much.

Well that was my way of being nice but nevermind.  

Ok.... it's called mame.exe -cc or mame.exe -createconfig

It makes the ini for you and even updates your existing ini with new switches.  

Anyone who's familiar with mame should know this and wouldn't have even asked the question you asked. (As most people aren't so lazy that they simply wouldn't open their ini file and look for themselves.)  Since you did ask it I had to assume you know little to nothing about the command line version of mame.
