Just got a Mag-Stik Plus from Ultimarc. I love the ability to change from 4 to 8 way. It makes my 39 in 1 jamma board awesome. No more running into ghosts on pac man.
The only problem I have is that it doesn't feel right. It feels as if it isn't too solid of a stick and it is loose and wierd.
Anyone else have this experience?
Is there anything I can do to make it feel more solid or stiffen it up a bit?

What your experiencing is the short throw. The stick travels a very short distance before it triggers a microswitch. If you grew up in the states, it definitely does feel "funny". When I bought mine, I gave them a solid month of play before I abandoned them in favor of dedicated 4 or 8 ways.
I have yet to try the U360, but it sounds like it's the stick people are using for 4 and 8 way games.

It's GREAT for 4 way games, but not so good for 8 way games in my experience. I treat it as a dedicated 4 way, which is a shame because the switchability is what sold me on the stick in the first place.

More than the short throw that you are talking about, it just feels like it is falling apart and not that solid. I dunno, maybe I am just comparing it to the old joystick I had in there.
So there is no way to make it feel better then, eh?

Does it even have a spring in it, or does it rely on the magnet as the only "return to center" method?

Feels very solid to me. Maybe there's something wrong with yours. I assume you disassembled and reassembled it to install on your control panel? Maybe it didn't get put back together correctly?
Check with Andy.

I have a pair of these and they are very solid. Short throw - yes. Falling apart - no.

the nut on the bottom has to be tightened all the way down and if It's not put togerther just right it won't tighten down, I had that problem and had to look at the diagram on the ultimarc website to see how it went together
short throw, but works great and feels solid now
