Title: Picture Tube degausser
Post by: Rickn on May 15, 2008, 08:12:17 pm
Hi Guys, does anyone have any experience with this website http://www.uxcell.com/hand-held-crt-picture-tube-degaussing-coil-repair-screen-degausser-p-1454.html

They have a hand degausser similar to what I am used to paying like $100 for $14.

Wow seems like all you guys should have one.

Doesn't look very strong. In fact, it looks more like a toy.

I use a G.C. Electronics (www.gcwaldom.com) number 9317 Professional high-power degaussing coil. It's also sold by MCM Electronics (www.mcmelectronics.com) as their stock number 72-790 ($32.95).

Don't kid yourself Ken... if it is even half of the ones we use that look the same and have the same spec...  more than enough power.

Unless someone gives me a negative fedback on the supplier... I will be the guinea pig.

specs say 220v input . so,  that WILL allow a smaller gauge wire for the same guass as a larger 120v version .

'course being 220v doesn't help much here in l'etas uni......  ;D

The ones I use from GC Electronics are definitely heavy duty and professional quality. They are POWERFULL and rated for 120 volts AC.

The one you linked to is shown as operating on 220 volts!

Yes Ken, I knew it was specd at 220 volts.... I had already sent them an e-mail asking about 120 volts... sadly to say, not available.

Hozan has one but it is like $100 I will keep looking.

I simply put a magnet on the end of a drill.

But in all seriousness, I've gotten rid of some magnetic blurs by simply spinning a magnet in my hand near the affected area. Doesn't work that great though and can cause other magnetic blurs if you do it wrong.
