Title: MaLa users: how have you set up Daphne?
Post by: Ummon on May 14, 2008, 11:29:01 pm
I tried setting things up according to unclet's tutorial. I think why it's not working is because the bat paths aren't set accordingly. However, when I right-click on them there's no 'open with...' in the list, so I can't amend the paths for them. I asked unlet and he said to ask around as there might be a better way someone has figured out. ??

I'm using batch files to run Daphne.  Do you have Daphne Loaded installed?  You can check an option to show you the command line it is using and then put that in a batch file.  You may need to change the path to make it work correctly.  If you do not have the open with option, try opening notepad and then opening the .bat files to edit.

Ohhh riiight. I'd forgotten that I could open a document from the menu in notepad. Not something I do often, and I almost never mess with bats.

You know, Maximus Arcade is the only fe to have Daphne squared away by only setting the exe path. (It selects all the following relevant paths automatically, etc, if they're in the same directory - which mine always are.) I had forgotten what its options were and so I got a copy and checked, and there was nothing special. It does have 'bat' as the file type - except there are no bats in any of the MA files that I found. Perhaps they're integrated? Something for MaLa - well, any fe - to shoot for.

That is a good idea.  You should figure out how to do it and send in the code to Loadman.  He is managing the MALA frontend now and I'm sure would like the help.

HA, yeah. Especially as I edited my Daphne bat paths and the games wouldn't even try to load - I got some Windows error box - I don't think that's happening any time soon. I do think it's rather funny that only one person's been able to do it. Something that may be telling in this though: if you've had Maximus Arcade on your computer ever, and you exceed the time limit - short of an OS re-install, you won't ever be able to try another version till you register MA. I looked in the registry and didn't find anything obvious, either. Clever, but pretty sneaky.

Yep, it's no secret that you have to pay for MA so I don't think it is too sneaky.  I think most people have Daphne running with MALA using Unclets batch files as a template.  What are you having trouble with?  It takes a little time to figure it out but I think that is in sync with the nature of this hobby.

It's sneaky, because it does something rather permanent to your system. Who knows what else it does or could do?
