Hey guys, I purchased 25 parted out (looks like only the boards were removed) 8-liner machines today on auction. Most still have bill and coin acceptors, some are in VERY nice condition complete with marquees, buttons, nearly perfect cabinets. All have monitors, a couple had sticky notes marked (non-working monitor) so I'm assuming some of the screens may still be working. Is it possible to plug these in sans board and testing the monitor? I'm thinking my best option may be parting these out vs buying boards. There are 9 that are in very good condition and I'm considering buying boards and selling these as functional machines. What do you guys think? :)

I say you should probably sell the bill acceptors. I have heard that they are pretty valuable.
If you can get the cabs running then you maybe could sell them to individuals. Lots of people dump their whole paychecks into these things. Maybe one of them would rather just play at home?
I've wondered how hard it is to convert these to play regular games. I hardly ever see any cabs around here for sale but I see lots of 8 liners. Does anyone make a generic joystick plus button control panel for these types of things?

I agree, I was thinking the bill and coin acceptors should net me a decent amount given 25 machines. I'd love to find a home for the monitors if they work...
Does anyone know if it's possible to test the monitors without a board in the cabinet? If I plug it in, will the monitor power up?

Just posting a follow-up here...
2/3rd's of the units had working DBV-30's and/or other validators. So far around 1/2 have working monitors. 5 had either Fruit Bonus '96 or Cherry Bonus '96 boards in them. So far I have 5 working machines in almost perfect condition. I'm considering buying boards for the remaining machines. I should have around 15-20 machines working when all is said and done. :) With the remaining machines parted out and cabinets sold sans board.
If anyone's in the Austin area and interested in picking up a fully functioning clean 8-liner, let me know. I'll hook you up. :)
