I am picking up a cobalt flux pad later today, found it local and reasonably priced.
Is the DDR emulation in mame any good or should I just install stepmania?
I have mame 114. I checked maws and looks like all the ddr stuff was added prior to 114.
Thanks

It certainly looks playable in this video:

Not sure what hardware is required for full speed though.
I don't want to hijack your thread, but does anyone know if PS2 DDR pads work well on the PC with one of those PSX to USB converters?

Stepmania.com is the place to go for adapter info. They have a whole section of reviews/comments. I have a Super Joy Box 3 and it's greats.

I use generic DDR pads designed for the PS2 through a PS2 converter, which I play stepmania with on my mame cabinet. It works perfectly.
I also use those PS2>USB converters for my guitar hero guitars to play Frets On Fire.
I'm running a 2+ghz P4 in my mame cabinet and I still can't run DDR fast enough in MAME, but Stepmania works great.

Definitely go the stepmania route. Ive bout killed my RedOctanes, but its still easily customizable (mine has the Jap EXTREME theme goin for it.) I actually freaked a couple friends out with it by making them think I spent the time and money to convert a JAMMA cab to DDR without arcade pads...good times...
