Title: Jukebox Questions from a newbie
Post by: sray2k on May 12, 2008, 07:14:24 pm
Does anyone have any Jukebox plans that they are willing to share ? I have skimming for ideas how big I shoul dmake mine.

I also am looking for a few other answers to some questions.

1. Using a PC system, should I use a whole PC with case and all, or should I use just the motherboard and CPU and find a way to screw it down into a shelf ?

2. Using a 5.1 surround system, the receiver/Bass speaker, should the subwoofer speaker be facing down, out, or what side would be best ?

3. what material would be best for making the cabinet ??

Thanks for any help,
   Scott

1)  I find it much easier and safer to keep all my computer components in the case.   It is easier to remove the whole computer from the cabinet when required and it is safer so things do not drop on the motherboard, etc... when working on the cabinet.

2) No idea

3) Depends how sturdy you want it.  I always build an internal frame using 2x4 lumber in my cabinets and then put 1/2" MDF and 3/4" MDF around the outside.   I like MDF since it is sanded already and can be painted nicely.

Generally speaking a subwoofer performs best when near a wall or floor.  Corners are great.  Facing down a little off the floor or near the back wall would be my sugestion.  Here is what I'm considering.  I'll be using two large bose home speakers and a 100watt X2  home receiver amplifier.  I'm thinking of putting them in a cabinet like this one.

I'll post a thread when I get a clearer idea of what It will be like.  The speakers are Bose so I'm going to try to incorporate that into the Marquee.
