Title: Secondary 7" screen in cabinet?
Post by: Dizzle on May 09, 2008, 09:42:47 pm
I'm sure this has been tried before so I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with monitors like these: http://astore.amazon.com/car-pc-20/detail/B000OH7JDU

It's small enough to fit under my primary monitor and I've been thinking about using one to display marquees or other artwork while selecting games in MALA and playing games in MAME.

Any ideas on how well these little things work?

There is a hack out there to be able to hook these LCDs up to a PC - much cheaper.

If I could figure out how to, I have been thinking about putting one in the top of my cp to display the controls layout with gameex, and - or th track artist info with cover art. I would use a 5 or 7 inch touch screen.

I've read that some of the Lilliput 7" have to be fed something like 800x480 resolution to look best, you might oughtta check if your comp can match up with the one you buy.

I own an 8-inch touchscreen (Not Lilliput) and it works OK.  It looks best a 640x480 - actually any of the compressed modes are barely usable.  The touchscreen function is great for touchscreen games, but not as good as the "pressure" sensitive types like you can find on some tablet pc's.  I used this in my car jukebox for quite a while.

Before I bought the good stuff, I was using a 5" Zenith PS2 lcd with my car jukebox.  Text smaller than 16pt was little hard to read even with the RGB hack.  You might be closer to the screen, though.
