Anyone played this game? it is great! its not vertical either! its full screen on my pc monitor. Just wondering if there are any other games like it out there that will go full screen and not be vertical? can u make a vertical game full screen or does it look bad? if so how?

I play this game. Very fun shooter! There is another one that I used to play that is also vertical scrolling on a horizontal resolution. I can't remember the name off the top of my head. I'll find it tonite and let you know.

That specific type of shooter is affectionately called a shmup.
There's a whole 194x series. You can read about a load of other shmups at www.shmups.com (the old site at www.classicgaming.com/shmups has a MAME page in the Xenocide files -- well worth looking up if you want to try some similar titles)

Maybe in the uk you could call it a shump but here in the good ole' USA it's a vertical shooter.
Shumps are gun games from the first or third person perspective. (Like T2 or hogan's alley) Games in which you pilot a ship/dragon/whatever that has a gun mounted to it are either horizonal or vertical shooters.
Just my opinion, but I think it's in the majority.
It's kinda like all fighter games. Only versus games (like street fighter) are fighters, the side scrolling games like tmnt are beat em ups. It urks me to no end when someone calls tmnt a fighter game. :)
