I built this cabinet about 4 years ago and figured it was time to repaint it. Disassembling the control panel, I pulled the wire end connectors and removed all the pushbuttons, leaving the wiring where it was.
When I put everything back together, nothing worked at all.
It may be a wiring problem, but the ipac is acting strange. All button presses or keypress on the attached keyboard are not recognized by the pc. Every key press or button press will light up all three num/caps/scroll lights on the attached keyboard shortly after the event, they blink once.
It's old enough I don't know if it has the self test built in or not. On power up the light on the ipac blinks once and stays steady.
I did try reprogramming it, but the application hanged. It looked like the programming never started, so I closed it after letting it hang for 30 minutes.
I'm not sure what this all means or where to go from here.

Try hooking it to another PC.

I connected it to my laptop using a ps2 to usb adapter. I'm not going to try reprogramming over it, but I do see the same behavior as my main machine.

Do you have a machine you can hook it to that you don't need an adapter to use it?
Also, check it over, perhaps something got broken in the disassembly process.

It would be a long while before I had another machine to try it on. All I have is the one machine and the laptop.
Do you really think it's a computer problem? I've used that adapter before to connect the ipac to my laptop fine (sorry for not saying before). Plus, when I swap out the ipac and connect the keyboard directly to the pc, it's fine. Swap them back and nothing.
I did notice something different. When I boot the pc without any keyboard connected then connect the ipac after the OS has loaded, the ipac will blink about 30 times (flashing very fast, maybe 4 times per second).
When I repainted, I didn't actually remove the ipac. All the wires still went to it. I just needed the pushbuttons out of the way. The ipac was still in the cabinet and I'm pretty certain it wasn't physically touched.
To be sure though, I did a visual inspection and continuity test (multimeter). All the traces I can see are unbroken, all the solder joints are still firm on the board, each of the inputs and serial lines still have a good electrical connection to where they are supposed to go.
The whole thing reads me like a software problem, but I have no idea how I can force the ipac to reprogram.

The flashing LED is an error code. This will tell you which input is at fault, you can check on www.ultimarc.com/ipac2.html in the table at the bottom of the page.
Then try disconnecting that switch. If still stuck drop me an email and I'll try to help
