I was wondering if there was an application that can be applied to MAME32 (run on Vista) that can limit the number of credits per boot, as well as save high scores without having to save the game state. Does anybody know if this can be done? :dunno

can limit the number of credits per boot,
Put a limited number of coins in front of your cabinet! ;D
More seriously , for the high score ,i'm sure there is a solution , i don't do that so i can not help , but you will have a answer here soon , i think.
For the credits limits, technically it is doable, but i don't think a program like that is already available.

For the high scores you'll need to compile your own version of MAMEUI with the highscore diff applied to the source. If you don't know how to compile, read around in this forum as there is a compiling tool written by headkaze which is phenomenally easy to use.

most people will shy away from any control of credits... Why? its a feature needed for making mame cabinets for profit...
Not only that, I'm pretty sure it isn't possible in the way your mentioning without a lot of trouble. I could see some hacks (like the credit button isn't set to a button, and then you force load a save state that has a set number of credits... but then you loose the high score which I think is a better thing to have.). Also, the number of credits 'required' is pretty different for different games. 2 coins is very different for two different games (which the save state solution might be perfect for)
