Title: Tagging Individual Songs with Year/Good reference?
Post by: nipsmg on May 01, 2008, 10:13:03 am
I've got quite a few mp3's with missing tag info that I'd like to get filled in.  does anyone know a good reference to type in a song name and get the year it was released and the original album is was released on?

I always have a problem finding that specific info out, and I really want to finish tagging my collection so I can get all my songs into my personal project I've been working on for testing..  ;D

I do not use tags myself, but see if this post helps you out:

That program is great, BUT, it looks like it doesn't add the 2 tags I'm most interested in:  Album and Year.

I have a lot of songs that are tagged Artist & Title, but no year or album, and it's tough to find out what album by what artist the song was on, and what year.  Looking for some music, espeically 80's music is hard, because each song is on 500,000 "BEST OF THE 80'S" compilations, released between 1990 and today.

Anyone know a good web resource for finding out this specific info?

In theory, you could download the complete freedb.org database and put together some custom app to give you options based on artist & song title.  Or you can play around with their online queries to attempt to retrieve similar information.

Go to freedb.org and play around and decide from there.

Actually, that's a pretty good idea :)

Thanks.. I'll probably do that.
