so i turned on my joust yesterday and the color was off...i looked at the image to see what exactly wasn't quite right...
it looks like the red isn't quite 'full'...
the black background isn't totally black...it's a tiny pseudo-checkerboard pattern of black & red...
but...after about an hour of it being on...it turns normal & stays normal until i turn it off for a while & then turn it back on after a few hours...the reds are in full effect & the black is actually black...
the monitor had a cap kit done on it before i got the machine...and actually the monitor looks really great...
i've had the cabinet for about six weeks now...
any ideas of what it could be...?
thanks...

doubtful a monitor issue .
check connections to monitor, and reseat all socketed ic's and edge connectors on the game pcb.
hopefully , it will be nothing more .....

How about a picture?

How about a picture?
yep...here's a few...
see how the lava isn't even red...?
"credits 0" at the bottom center is really dark red...whereas it should be bright red...
today it took about two hours for the color to jump back to normal...

Check the red color transistor on the neckboard.

didn't see any evidence of the checkerboard pattern originally described.
since the red improves when left on , i am inclined to think the red gun is getting weak.
however , a borderline output xistor can give unusual symptoms.
as Peale suggested , do check it.....

Check the red color transistor on the neckboard.
what would i be looking for...any obvious signs that something is up with it...?
didn't see any evidence of the checkerboard pattern originally described.
it's actually in effect in the first photograph...the black background isn't black...it's like a dark red...the checkerboard effect is like each pixel is alternating black/red...tiny checkerboard effect...

without a dmm , transistor tester or replacement , just sub it w/either the blue or green drive xistor .
if the problem transfers to a diff color , the xistor is likely faulty....
