I'm working on a megatouch right now and am almost finished with it.
One of the mdf sides is busted and I thought about buying a new set,
but it doesent seem too bad, so I may try to repair it with bondo.
If I can repair it, it will need to be refinished, but i'm looking for somthing
tough that wont chip or scratch and wont peel off if I replace the side decals
when I choose to upgrade the machine.
I'm thinking that shellac or a thick polyurathane coat would work well, but
I don't know if I can apply this stuff over paint without ruining it.
The directions on the can don't say anything about it and I don't mind
testing it out before hand, but I was wondering if anyone else has tried
this before and had good results.

shellac, definitely not. this is a very old way of old painting wood. you get the shellac chips, mix it with methylated spirits and paint it on. i doubt it would even stick to modern paint...
