hi got 3 projects going 1 is with a golden tee cab that has a 15/25k polo auto the other is a 15k kortex and the other is a standard res monitor (turbo outrun) i have a arcade vga v1 agp will that work with the other 2 monitors or just the 15k one? and do i need to buy 2 other cards for the other 2? or do i just get a card and run soft15k? with soft15k hoe do you stop the monitor getting the high pc sync?
-
you have all 15khz/cga/low res monitors
you either need a arcade vga for each or a vga card that can accept the custom resolutions with soft 15khz
-
the arcade vga and soft15K are mainly used for the 15K monitors.
-
i thought the 15/25k monitor was a low standard res
-
I have 1 ArcadVGA PCI-e card for sale. ;)
-
i thought the 15/25k monitor was a low standard res
no its switchable 15khz(low res/cga) and 25khz(med res/ega)-we call it a dual sync or dual frequency monitor
-
and vga is 31K
all 3 signal types differ and are not compatable.
-
i thought the 15/25k monitor was a low standard res
no its switchable 15khz(low res/cga) and 25khz(med res/ega)-we call it a dual sync or dual frequency monitor
But it requires powering down and manually switching something on the chassis, right?

depends on if its an auto sync or switchable sync, for example wg u5000,nanao ms8,nanao ms9,sanwa pm1745 and polo1 dual are all switchable 15/25 by way of a jumper plug whereas polo2 auto,polostar,ms2931a,weiya3129,rodotron 666a are all auto switching
-
Oh. I didn't know that many were autosync. Thanks. But most don't save settings?
-
the only monitors that save settings are digital, like wgd9400
the auto sync do not save any settings they just change automatically to whichever frequency is being supplied
-
That's what I thought. So why have arcade autosyncs that aren't digital? They have to open it up to get to switch out the innards anyway when changing games.
-
the dual sync chassis were made at a time when many cabs required the facility to handle both 15khz and 25khz,also it made sense for manufacturers to make one chassis two options
the first dual syncs are switched using a jumper plug,if you look at the u5000,polo1 dual, nanao ms8/ms9 and sanwa pm1745 they all have a jumper plug-a tech could swap out a ega game for a cga and only have to move the jumper-you tend to find the nanao and sanwa in sega jap/export cabs, the u5000 in europe built sega and midway, the polo 1 dual in electrocoin stuff
these jumper plugs caused a few problems whereby a crappy tech would plug it in wrong and kaboom, this is where hantarex stole the show with their auto ranging dual sync thus completely eliminating this problem-at this point hantarex became the norm monitor used on u.k cabs(and because the u5000 caused so many problems)
as the trend tended to die away from universal cabs to dedicated then the manufacturers tended to install single frequency monitors like in the sega naomi cabs which used nanao ms2932 and sanwa 29es31.
the japanese bucked this trend and instead starting using the first tri sync monitors, this was mainly to allow capability of 15khz rather than 25khz-the first of which were switchable on the remote panel then later became auto syncing.
it was only in last years or so that the digital multi sync monitor have emerged, which are only really useful if you have a multigame system(like mame)
-
Ahh<. Thank you for that. What with the problems with WG, as well as some with Betson, and that apparently Billabs has stopped doing digital multisync CRTs, I'm wondering how long they'll be around.
-
well from i can gather Wells have sorted their multisyncs with the d9400,
betson i am sure use a kortek brand chassis which i always had quality issues with.
i believe betson use the weiya chassis which again has some quality issues
there are others on the market like rodotron but of course now the real problem is the availability of tubes, just due to this alone i doubt any crt monitor will be around for much longer
my contacts at hantarex and pentranic say this is a critical problem, although whats the betting the chinese or indians start producing good quality crt
-
If there's a market for it, I won't be surprised if they do.
