Title: Need help with mame arcade setup and X arcade controls

All of the controls seem to work fine in the test.
During a game the joystick works fine upward, left and right but it doesn't want to move downward.
So the pacman or ladybug etc... will let you take him all the way to the top and then left or right but it won't let you go back go back down toward the bottom of the maze.
Any suggestions?

does the down arrow work outside of mame?  maybe it isn't mapped properly, or maybe one of the wires came off.  x-arcade has a test program you can download to make sure everything is working...

The X arcade tank stick seems to work fine in the test mode.

Delete the file "default.cfg" and try again. Otherwise change it in MAME manually:
