Title: Where to get speaker metal mesh like on a Robotron Cab
Post by: tophatne1 on April 23, 2008, 08:53:44 am
I'm looking to use a metal speaker mesh for the top section above the monitor when the overhead speakers will go. I'd like to use one continuous sheet of speaker metal mesh like you find on a Robotron or other Williams cabs.

Doe's anyone know where I can find sheets of this or somewhere to get custom sizes made?

Thanks.

You can see what I used here:

seemed to be a good match.

Thanks for the link. Looks good on your defender project but I might need something with less holes since my plan was not to use any MDF or other solid wood pieces behind it.

Ok... well the stuff that I used is pretty much the same in terms of hole spacing and hole size of that of Robotron or any other Williams games of that era.

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong. I haven't seen the Williams speaker covers in a while.

I was looking around and it looks like what you did is the best option either way so thanks! :)

No sweat... and all those Williams cabs have a piece of MDF for the speaker to mount on.  The speaker grille was made from plastic, not metal.  Newer Midway cabs like Mortal Kombat have a metal mesh, but older Williams cabs used plastic... hence why many are busted out from people punching them.

Take a look at the robotron / joust upright parts catalog...

Yeah mine is busted on my Robotron.

I built another Defender a couple of weeks ago and I just used some black stretchy cloth.

Looks very tidy but not original of course.

If I can't find something similar for my Robotron here, then I will use the cloth on it.

Found them on the Interweb.  :laugh2:
Note the dark grey. Looks very cool in the flesh.
