Title: Mother's day gift ???
Post by: deeesss on April 21, 2008, 12:50:58 am: I am looking to buy a gift that's not the norm, something a bit unusal, something that says i love and i care for you, can you give me some ideas?

Mothers day is a hard day to shop... Just find something neat that is pretty and useful. Regardless she will love you for it. :D

Post by: shmokes on April 21, 2008, 08:07:35 pm: I dissected a laptop and installed it into a frame. It became a digital photo frame, running Windows XP. It pulls photos wirelessly from a Flickr account that my wife and I control. So when my mother in law comes home from work, she's often surprised to see brand new pictures of her grand daughter displaying on her photo frame. It's a gift that keeps on giving. And the fact that I built it does two things: 1) it gives me loads of cred . . . they love me, and 2) it looks approximately 1000x better than almost anything you could buy.

It cost me about $25 for the frame. The laptop was just an old junker that wasn't in use. I did have to pick up a WiFi card for it, though, which was probably another $20.

Post by: Jdurg on April 22, 2008, 11:12:15 pm: Take her out for dinner at a place that she really likes. I've done that for my mom the past few years, and she really enjoys it. She then knows that she gave birth to a son that has made something of himself so he can take her out to dinner, plus she gets to eat whatever she wants and not worry about cost. She's liked that more than any physical gift I could buy for her.
