Title: Lucky be a lady this month.
Post by: protokatie on April 18, 2008, 12:53:21 am
Well I thought my cab project was going to be a slower thing than this. Then TehNazty sells me a coin mech for cheep (needs some TLC but meh). Then I tell a former roomate about my project and he says "You have a place to build the cabinet in? If you give me 20 or 50 bucks, I will build it for you. Just give me the blueprints. I may even be able to get much of the wood for free"

Nice! Also, this guy works for one of the best yacht makers on earth (Hinkleys) and knows his way around wood as well as fibreglass. So basically, I need to get a design up to spec (after I receive the coinbox to allow for decent space allotment) and I should have a cab in a matter of a month or so!

I guess the next project after this one will be a modular/portable although fullsized skeeball table... (Skeeball kicks shizzle!)

(Note: put this in everything else since I didnt really know where I should really put it)

If that is indeed the case then download a set of the better free plans and give them to your buddy right now before he backs out. If you are doing a smaller cabinet then I suggest giving him the plans for a Defender or Pac-Man since you can readily source the other hardware bits for those cabinets.

Doubt he will back out, he does like building things. If he sees the blueprints and goes "holy shite this will take longer than I thought" I will offer more money. As per using already made designs; that is out. The whole reason why I went into this (other than to have my own MAME cab) was to have my own MAME cab. IE my own design for what I wanted. This is also why I didnt want to buy an old gutted cab.

Also, any ideas on how to make a modular and highly portable skeeball setup? I have some ideas, maybe someone will have an idea I wouldnt have thought of.

Yes, they sell portable skee ball games. I'd just buy one of those before attempting to build one.

I'd run your design past people here before having him build it, a surprising number of people tend to design cabinets that are either poorly imagined in one dimension or another, are just waiting to fall over as soon as someone presses down on the panel or are otherwise flawed.

If I had someone offer to supply the wood and build me a cabinet all for free, I would hand him my copy of Project Arcade right on the spot!
