Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the NES.
I played it 2 nights ago and got decently far, the tunnels into death mountain hung me up. I gave it a rest and played again last night.
Was ALMOST to the hammer and got killed because the BATTLE SYSTEM IS HORRIBLE!!!
So I took an ACTUAL HAMMER and smashed the catridge right there. No lie. BROKE.
Here are the things that piss me off about this game.
1. There is a delay between the time you press attack and the time he thrusts. It is like he is winding up for a fast ball. This means that you have to press attack around 1/2 second before you would like to hit something. For a moving target this proves difficult. Escpecially because....
2. Enemies can thrust thier weapons and hit you from farther away than you can hit them. Just WHY :banghead: Who thought this was a good idea? You do not have a sword you have a little pocketknife but ALL the other enemies have a sword.
3. Life after death. Everyone who plays this game knows what I am about to say. No matter how far you are into the game, no matter how long it took you to get to the last dungeon.... once you die 3 times, the dreaded red screen with the demonic laughter shows on your TV and you may think you should hit continue. BUT..... when you hit continue you start at the very very very first screen of the entire game. The one with sleeping princess in the temple. If you want to get back to the dungeon you were in it will take you JUST AS LONG as the first time. I ended up using my life spell numerous times to avoid backtracking only to realize that I would need shield or jump or something so I would have to start going back to take on enemies to try to get more magic. But in the process, I put my man's life at risk totally negating the purpose of using the life spell in the first place.
After #3 happening to me 3 times in a row on the way to get the hammer, I got my own hammer and smashed the cartridge. It felt GREAT, I will NEVER play that game again and I honestly mean it now that I don't have the cart anymore.

I just thought that maybe someone else had experienced the frustration that is Zelda II.

If it's any consolation, I can remember getting through the entire game as a kid and being unable to beat the final boss that is a shadow of Link.
I hated that game for that exact reason.

You could have sold that game for $25 to go towards the purchase of your Ms. Pac bezel.
-
I got it out of my system by playing it on an emulator and abusing the hell out of the save function.
You should do the same.

Amateur. ;)
I once snapped a SNES controller in half after a frustrating round of Street Fighter 2 .. with my bare hands ;D

my buddy josh did the same thing, I beat him with chun li using just light kick.

I picked up a copy of the game a few years ago as part of a lot buy. I figured it was an OK deal since I didn't have the game to begin with, I happened to like most of the Zelda games, I thought it was worth the price.
I played a total of about five minutes before relegating it to my the-only-reason-I-have-this-title-is-to-go-towards-a-complete-collection box.
The game brought back nightmares from my Sword of Vermilion days.

Play Golvellius on Sega Master System. It's the game Zelda II only wishes it could be.

Where did you get this number from?
I just did a search on ebay and there are TONS of these things on there for around 6 dollars. The highest I saw that had a bid was 9.99 and it had the box and the instruction sheet. I have neither.
SO, was $6 worth the hammer smash. Absolutely. ;)
Besides, I bought the thing for $1.99 about 3 years ago on ebay anyways. Far from $25.
EDIT: That post sounded haughty towards the Dazz. I said all that toungue in cheek. But it is more like $5 instead of $25.

Am I the only one that liked this game? I beat it as a kid and about 2 years ago I loaded it up on my PSP and played through it again. It's definitely flawed and frustrating at times but I liked it.
-
I recall liking it when it came out, and I beat it back in the day, but I tried to play it again on my GBA and couldn't play too far before I got sick of it.
Too many games I haven't played. No need to replay something I'm not happy with.

I was playing MKII online on PS3 one night and some guy had put in some type of code and kept cheating and beating me. I got so frustrated that I took a hammer and smashed my $50 wireless controller to pieces. I felt a LOT better!

I exclusivly use chun-li. And I almost always win againt human opponents. Chun-Li is an odd bird. She seems so week (both in attack and stamina) and therefor would make one assume she isnt a balanced character and is easily defeated. Then once you realise how quick she is and get used to her she is unbalanced in that you can kick major butt with her without using a single special move...

I had a friend of mine throw his Gameboy across the room because he got frustrated with a game he was playing. I had to duck and it smashed into the wall! He was actually mad at me for not catching it with my head.

Been there. Done that. Also due to Street Fighter 2.
But the best one I've ever seen...... my mate lost a race in Need For Speed: Most Wanted by .02 of a second and ripped his logitech steering wheel off it's base. He had it secured to a table so well that the wheel part just snapped off in his hands. He calmed down for a second or two while it sunk in, then flipped out again and threw the steering wheel across the room, into a glass display cabinet.

Zelda II wasn't that bad. It just got boring at times as you leveled up in order to avoid the frustrations that were mentioned earlier in this thread.

This is the exact reason I usually do not play RPG's. (Really Poor Games)
What is the point of having to level up in the first place. Design the game so that my skills are tested, not my patience and endurance!
my $0.02 anyways

I've gone through many a PS2 controller playing the Soul Calibur games...

Its the truth i was there!!!!

I don't know. I really enjoy playing RPGs because I enjoy leveling up. Action RPGs are my favorite, just because the battle system is skill and strategy oriented, but leveling up is half the fun of an RPG.

Am I the only one who smashes PC peripherals?
I remember once I slammed my fist down so hard on our Apple ][ keyboard, the whole thing caved in.
Here's a nice guide if you need help punishing your computer for its crimes:

Now that is taking it to another level.

If I remember correctly, it was some kind of cheap raquet ball game that my neighbor had. We got so frustrated with the poor graphics and bad game play.. that the next time I was cutting my lawn.. he ran over and threw it under the mower. Good times....

my cousin threw his sega genesis out of the upstairs window, no lie
-
I smashed an old Macintosh computer... boy did that feel good :)

I flung my then best friends copy of Ninja Gaiden through an open window. In the middle of a snowstorm, at night, down a mountain slope. Took me about an hour to locate it again.
Not exactly a fit of rage, but that same friend literally blew up cottage six channel stereo system rated at 200watts per channel by doing exactly what I told him not to do. By running the stereo out from the Sega Genesis/CD to the stereo then maxing the volume on the Genesis and burning out the preamp. At 2AM, I only had about 40 seconds of loud music to wake up and shout at him to turn it down before the stereo smoked. ---smurf--- still owes me money for a new one.
The same person, in a moment of monumental stupidity, attempted to "fix" his NES because the controllers weren't responding the way he wanted. His fix was to disassemble the NES, then proceeded to cut the wires from the controller plug to the PCB with... [pause for effect] a butter knife.
A friend of mine (not the same one) cracked one of my SNES controllers during a SFII bout.
Another friends ---uvula--- step-father threw such a drunken ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- fit one night that he ripped the controllers out of his SNES and chucked them out the window. He did it because I managed to beat him at a game of Super Mario World by flying through the most difficult portions. In his drunken state, I could've walked through the entire game without jumping and still play a better game. My friend and I snuck out before the next morning and hung out for about a week.

Hmm destroyed? Only mice on my PC. But i do remeber that with thick carpet and enough rage, you can bounce a nintendo (NES) controler off the carpet and hit the ceiling. No idea how i did it, luck? The pure rage of beating castlevania and killing Drac to find out the BUGGER is a giant fish and i need to kill him again. I'm pretty sure i never played it again. But I do have the Xbox Live Arcade one on my Xbox.. now if i can just pry myslef away from Actraiser on the Snes, forgot how much fun that one was.

In the original Zelda your sword was HUGE! It even shot out like a howitzer at full health. Then, Zelda 2, and Links new pocket knife. What the hell is that? And when it shoots out it looks like it's too brittle to do anything! All through that game I was expecting him to upgrade to something a little more badass but........
Loved the game though!
-
I started playing through Zelda on the NES last night and that game is 100X the game that Zelda II thinks that it should be.
Had LOADS of fun remembering where all the bombed caves are and the burning bushes. Way more fun.
-
Yeah, to me Zelda II was the bastard child of the series. It was okay, but not nearly as good as the rest. The original Zelda, A Link To The Past, and Ocarina of Time are absolutely insane games. Ocarina of time was awesome and I still play it to this day. It was also the only Zelda I played where i didn't use a cheat guide to get me through it.
-

Probably a result of a ménage à trois by the CD-i trio.

no. you're not

i think this thread should be moved to the 'reviews' section to warn people of the perils of this game. if i ever get an NES i now have a heads up (",)
i also used to be an angry young man when things wouldnt work. i once kicked in the passenger door of my car (it was a triumph, had something that was really retarded to fix, the trauma has erased the actual problem part from my memory)
