I finally got one of my holy grails. I played Black Knight a lot as a kid, in fact, it's one of the only pins I really played when i was younger. I've been keeping my eye out for a reasonable price in good condition and finally found the deal I was looking for. A guy in Milwaukee wanted a MAME cab and we worked out a deal to trade straight up. I put together a MAME with trackball, spinner, Wico joy, and 6 buttons and made the trade early Sunday morning. I'm ecstatic about the trade and he seems to be too so it's nice that everyone wins. The BK is in awesome shape with only a few touchups needed on the cabinet and very little wear on the playfield. Plays great and sounds just like I remembered it. He set the high score pretty high (2.5 mil) so i have my work cut out for me.

Great deal!... Black Knight is one of my favorites... I do love most classic Williams pins... but Black Knight as well as Firepower were the one's I played much when I was young...

That 1812 looks dark in the light, or is it just that it happened to not have any lights on in that sequence?
EDIT: What I meant to say was.... the 1812 either has alot of lights burnt out OR the lights sequence was just right. Wow, bad grammer.
-
Did you trade a guy named Ed for that Black Knight?
-
Good score!!!
Black Knight was a personal fav of mine growing up. Along with Haunted House, Gorgar, Flash & Xenon.
-
Very nice! :applaud: Love that Black Knight!

Thanks, guys. Yeah, the 1812 must have been in a cycle right that second because the lights are all fine. It does look odd. I'm extremely happy with the BK. Outside of the standard backglass flaking (which isn't horrible) it's in great shape and plays perfectly. The guy I traded is named Dave and was a really nice guy. I REALLY feel like I got the better of this deal but I hope he enjoys his MAME cab for a long long time.

I REALLY feel like I got the better of this deal.
No kidding.
A W E S O M E trade Cowbell. I want to be the first to say... you suck!
I'm also envious of that pretty unfaded 1812 cabinet. Mine is not that nice. Oh, and for the poster that asked about the lights being out in the 1812, It does that during attract while pointing out the different features of the game. It will turn all the GI off and just light one area and then describe on the display how to score that feature of the game. It's pretty interesting how Gtb did their attract modes on the SS pins.

Looks good! Alot better than the BK I saw at Gameland in Lake Geneva a few weeks ago, some idiot had drilled ventilation holes all over both sides of the head right in the artwork :dizzy: :banghead: :censored:

Black Knight is my all time favourite pinball machine and I would commit many heinous crimes to get a decent one.
Well done you utter bastard.
P.S. I spit on your 2.5 million, I have clocked Black Knight quite a few times.

Black Knight takes a totally different mindset and strategy than I am used to. I have a Class of 1812 and Jurassic Park and both of those are like target pinball and the ball is pretty easy to control. I am really digging the magna-save and getting better at using it at the right times. I can see getting too used to that and struggling with other machines though. I've been working on my consistency at getting multiball too. It is a great game!

Says the guy who struck the first blow to pinball one-upsmanship by adding a Firepower and Blackout to his collection... ;D

Blackout is already heading back out the door.
Step 3. Profit!
IMHO Firepower+Blackout<Black Knight. I love that game. At least I can play BK on the wii. :dunno

I was just looking at that Williams Pinball Collection for the Wii yesterday. How is that? Seems like a lot of fun.
IMHO Firepower+Blackout<Black Knight.
Agreed. ;D

eh I like Visual Pinball with PinMame on my cab. :dunno

Awesome trade. If anyone in Texas wants to trade a MAME or Multicade cab for a Pin let me know

I like PinMAME as well. It's a great chance to play all the pins I've never seen before and those that I just haven't ever had a chance to get in front of. I played a bunch of BK over the weekend and I'm liking it more and more even though I can't seem to get much over a million points. That mystery ramp shot is tough for some reason. I just can't seem to get it down. I'm definitely getting better with the magna saves. I like the taunting of the Black Knight, it makes me want to whup him. Unfortunately, he beats me 9 games out of 10. :hissy:

I like it a lot. It's not a pin, but the dynamics seem natural enough, and it gives me several pins to play that I won't have otherwise. Shaking for nudge is a nice touch, although I'm not sure it does much. I can't figure out how to do a death save without having a cabinet to bang on? ;D

Had the game of my life and scored 3.5 million to destroy the old high score. Funny thing is that I had never even broken 1.5 million before that. I love it when a plan comes together.

Had a scare with my Black Knight this week. On Sunday we had a bunch of neighbors over and there were like 12 kids in the basement playing away on the games. That's fine, that's why they're there. I come down at the end of the night and BK is stuck in some loop with the sound just going on and on. I tried turning it off and on and all I got was attract mode but couldn't start a game. Oh crap! I tried the switches on the coin door, it was kind of dark though so I couldn't see what I was pushing. I ended up wiping out the high score (Doh!) and getting into audit mode. Got out of audit mode and apparently reset everything back to default somehow (wondering if batteries were dying). Played a game and thought nothing of it until yesterday. Same deal, attract mode wouldn't start a game. I cracked out the manual and started researching on the internet. The error code on the CPU showed 9 which was either a memory error (batteries?) or an IC19 ROM error. The internet didn't really agree with the assessment based on the attract mode coming up. I replaced the batteries, no change. I replaced some burnt fuses on the sound board, no change. I was ready to give up when I noticed what some of the other fuses were labeled. One of them was for solenoids and I started thinking about the fact that when you start a game, the machine clicks around getting the drop targets in place. The fuse looked good from where I was standing though but, just in case, I popped it out and took a look. It had burnt out only in one little area instead of shrinking back on both sides. I replaced it and the machine fired right up! Best feeling in the world to figure something like this out. Now I need to reset the high score with some monster games.
