Hello all. My cab is up and running now. In fact I have a few mates coming round tonight to have a few beers and rounds on Robotron.
I've noticed an unfortunate side effect on most of my Mame games though. The screen keeps flickering, a sort of black flicker. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Its quite annoying.
I'm at work at the minute but later on I'll post both my PC specs and Mame versionj to help you help me further.
TIA
Councilface.

And your monitor type. Don't forget that.
-
Also, If its a PC MAME setup does the monitor flicker only with MAME or with other PC usage too (Windows etc)
-
Hey all, took me a while but the version of Mame that im using is v0.116 in conjunction with an LCD monitor. I guess that there is an LCD setting that I need to adjust in the MAME ini?
Cheers

you still haven't posted your system specs. Also, what kind of LCD monitor? There's information about the monitor that could help determine what your problem is.
-
System specs are:
256MB Ram (Could this be the reason why newer games dont run properly?)
BIOS: Compaq 686Y2 v2.11
Processor: Intel P4 CPU 1.60 Ghz
Sorry for the delay, Im not on line at the moment so apologies. I also got a promotion which means I hardly get time to be a robotron hero anymore :o(
I'll put my LCD specs up tonight. Promise :o)
Thanks in advance

I've seen that come and go with different versions of MAME using onboard nVidia GeForce (2 I think) on an 2.4GHz Athalon XP board. Particulalry with Shinobi. Never figured it out so I'd be interested in watching this thread because I think it still happens with some games on my cab running MAME 0.94.

I've seen this as well. Its so sporadic and happens so quickly that I never really tried to track it down.
I'm running MAME .84 with a 2ghz P4 and NVidia Geforce 4200ti.

My monitor is a 21" sceptre LCD.
Its about 5 years old I guess. I stole it from my Mrs.
Would my lack of Ram be the reason that newer games (PS based I think) seem to stutter/slowdown massively?
Would be lovely to have a few games of radiant silvergun

Is your video onboard?
-
How would I find out if my video is onboard. Apologies but im only semi PC literate. I understand that I can find this out by entering DXDIAG in the run command but Im unsure where to look after I've done this.
Within reason Im quite happy to spend a bit on my PC to get some of the more modern games running (and the older games running smooth). Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.
I forgot to say, the flickering/stuttering only happens after playing on my cab for a while. Dunno if this helps.
Thanks for reading.

Bueller?

The way to tell if it's onboard or not is to check where your monitor plugs in. If it's off by itself in a slot, it's not onboard. If everything else you plug in is right up against it, it's probably onboard.

Cheers Ginsu, I'll check tonight.

your incredibly weak processor would be the reason. you need a top-end core 2 duo to run the newer stuff.
