This is not a thread to argue what is the best setup. I am just trying to get a feel for the 'most common' setups for CP's.
**The purpose of this thread is to see what the most used layouts are. I have been discussing the Stainless Steel button bezels with 'Franco B'. He produces the single button bezels and I am trying to see what layouts would make the most sense to possibly produce as a whole piece***
Thanks for your time

I voted, but figured I'd give an explanation too :). I've got 3 arched, since that's the way the setup was on the CP when I got the cabinet (actually, it only had 2, but had a blank knockout for a 3rd one...must have had a 3rd button in a previous conversion). I added the 3rd button on both players to replace the knockouts. They're in the perfect location for Track and Field. The CP artwork has the left and center one labeled action and jump. I haven't replaced any of them, so I usually have most of the games that have 2 buttons so the jump button matches the one that's labeled.

my panel currently has 6 buttons in 2 straight rows (street fighter layout) i am in the process of building a new panel that will be 6 buttons arched.

Easy access to joysticks and spinner without bumping into any buttons. Easy to remember which buttons to use. Doesn't take much "real estate" on the control panel. Only proper layout for playing Vanguard.
Of course it's no good for fighting games. To me that's an advantage. I have zero interest in them, and I'll have a good excuse not to play them. "SF2? Sorry, no controls for it. . . How about two-player Rip Off?"

Other:
The physical button layout is:
1 2 3 7
4 5 6 . . 8
For MAME I use this for all games:
1 2 3 4
4 5 6 . . S
The 'S' is the shift button enabling buttons 1-7 to become 9-15 when the shift is held down first.

456
123
4
The four is wired twice. It's a bottom row Neo Geo (with the lower button on the other side) combined with a reverse Capcom.
Plus I have a P1 P2 start buttons, a Pause/general purpose button, and an exit on top of the cabinet above the marquee.
Throw in two Happ Universal sticks and a spinner at the top center.

6 arched pairs for PL1 and PL2 on the horizontal CP of my cab, 3 arched rows for PL1 and PL2 on the vertical CPs.

Not sure how to vote this one. I have a few CPs; the two I use the most are 4 buttons total per player (2 buttons mirrored on each side of the stick), and a 7 button neo thumb. I also have a plain two button CP (two TBs, button on left of TB) and a three button arched (1 TB, buttons mirrored on each side of TB, for a total of six buttons).
Hmm, since my 7 button CP is a bought hotrodse from before I even thought about BYO CPs, I'll vote 2 button straight. ;D

I'm not sure your poll will get you the info you are looking for.... on my latest cabinet I have 3 buttons kind of in an arc but that cabinet was built to play a very specific set of games (vertical MAME). If I was trying to play a different set of games my button layout would be different.
