Title: Golden Tee Mame project
Post by: wrighty on April 08, 2008, 08:36:09 am
Hey all this is my first post so please be gentle!!

I am wondering how can I make a control panel (2 joystick, 6 buttons each side) as the golden tee machine just has a track ball? And how does my arcade monitor conect to the PC? The machine is JAMMA and fully working as I have put my old SF2 board in for testing. I cant get my head round what I need to do and I am also very cautious of playing in the back of the cab due to the high voltages etc! My job is in IT so even though the above sounds a bit vague im sure someone can help me!

Cheers!!

You should be able to replace just the top piece of wood on the control panel, if you want to.
Just copy the piece that's there exactly.
If that's too much work, you could plug the existing holes, and redrill your own.

As for hooking up the computer, the best way is a JPac and an ArcadeVGA.
The JPac handles all the inputs, and the ArcadeVGA handles the video.
There are other solutions, but that one is easy, and out of the box.
Both pieces are available at Ultimarc.com

Cheers for that!! Has anyone got any knowledge of the Golden tee architecture? Looking at it all I have is the Jamma connector and some wites that were connected to the trackball. Where do I wire the buttons/joysticks to as the golden tee machine only has a trackball and 2 buttons? Also what gauge wire etc will I need?

From what I understand the JPAC acts as an interface between the jamma and the PC, am I correct with this?

Below is a link of the Golden Tee Jamma pinouts

http://www.jammaboards.com/pinouts/Golden%20Tee.txt (http://www.jammaboards.com/pinouts/Golden%20Tee.txt)

Obviously, The joysticks are not wired in nor are the buttons.

How do I get the wires from the Jamma connector to my controls, do I need special connectors or do I need to solder or something?

Some searching on the forum will provide you all the answers you are looking for in your project.  Take the time to use the search feature and you will find many threads of people doing similar builds.

You can use any type of connection you want with your wires.  You can use quick disconnects (the most popular, they are the male and female contacts the join together), crimp on connectors, and if you really wanted to you can solder the connections.

Your basic jamma pinout is here:
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/w/images/9/93/Jamma-pinout.gif (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/w/images/9/93/Jamma-pinout.gif)
This will help you in your wiring of the controls.

I would suggest visiting the BYOAC wiki at:
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Main_Page (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Main_Page)
It is an easy to navigate source of information that will help you greatly in your build.

good luck and keep us updated

Forget the J-Pac your cabinet isn't wired for sticks and buttons and given the number of wires you'd have to run to the J-Pac it's not worth using a J-Pac and the existing wiring. Mostly because the Golden-Tee machine does not have a complete JAMMA loom.

Fit the PC with the Arcade VGA card to give you video that will drive the arcade monitor and either get an I-Pac and wire your controls to that, or get a Keywiz http://www.groovygamegear.com (http://www.groovygamegear.com) and wire them to that.

Many of the basic questions you are asking here are also answered in the http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/ (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/) read read read!!!

Also!! Buy Saint's book!! you'll find it on Amazon....   http://www.amazon.co.uk/Project-Arcade-Machine-Digital-Lifestyle/dp/0764556169/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207845584&sr=8-2 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Project-Arcade-Machine-Digital-Lifestyle/dp/0764556169/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207845584&sr=8-2) It's invaluable to all Arcade noobs!! lots of good advice... buy it and read it cover to cover.

Best Regards,

Book has been ordered and after a few posts in other areas I have my plans!! Just one quick last noob question! In my golden tee machine I have 2 speakers in the front (which off the top of my head are connected to my Jamma loom). Can I use the speakers for my project or will I need some PC speakers to take the sound? It would be nice to have the Cabinet speakers for authenticity though! Im guessing the only way I could do it would be by hacking a PC amp somehow?

Cheers again!
