Shoot me if this should be in console....
Picked up a PS2, third party guitars as we wanted wireless, and GH 1 and 2 at Christmas for my son.
He has done well in school so reward was GH3.
However the guitars we have been using do not appear to work at all with GH3.
Did they change something that makes prior guitars not compatible?

I had the same problem, in fact I exchanged one of the guitars and the replacement had the same issue.
What I found that worked for me was if I played Guitar Hero II and then put in Guitar Hero III, the 3rd party wireless guitar worked. I don't know if you just have to load GHII or actually play it, but that is what it took for me.
Very frustrating.

Actually this is a known issue with many of the 3rd party controllers and the PS2. Your best bet is to get the official wireless controllers and not screw around with the POS 3rd part ones.

Check out the compatibility chart...

I guess I knew the answer before I asked....
I wonder what software change occurred in GH3 that is different from GH2 that has caused the incompatibility.
Anyone want to buy (2) like new GH I and II wireless guitars for PS2 that apparently do not work with GH3?
I can see the loss coming...
