Can someone tell me how I setup a steering wheel with MAME? Is there a FAQ or a good site with some info? I'm using a Wingman Formula GP, but I'm using the "2-axis, 4 Button Joystick" settings with XP. (According to Logitech this is the only way I could get it going). Also this is a Gameport device, not a USB if it makes any difference.
Thanks!!

I'm interested in the same information too.
Over the weekend I purchased (minimal $) a Saitek R100 wheel w/ game port. I set it up (in Windows XP) by adding a custom controller as a 2 axis, 4 button, wheel. Once calibrated everything works well.
My problem is setting up the in game settings to make proper use of the steering wheel, buttons, and pedals. I played around with the settings in SpyHunter and got the acceleration pedal to work but I still had shifting and machine gun mapped to the same button. I'm sure with more tweeking I'll manage to set things up properly. I tried another game but was unable to get moving in it because I couldn't shift. I forget the game but its from Atari, has crude 3D polygones, and a loop-d-loop in it.
What I think we need is a document that shows the input settings for each wheel game that makes the best use of the controls we have.
I tried Star Wars with the wheel and pedals for fun. It was a challenge to use the wheel to move the crosshair right and left in conjunction with the pedals for up and down. At least I know everything works.
Cheers,

I believe the arcade game you're thinking of is Hard Drivin'. This has got to be one of the most difficult driving games I ever played.

Can I use any version of MAME with a wheel? Where do I go to set up the controls?

Can I use any version of MAME with a wheel?
Yes. Enable joystick.
Where do I go to set up the controls?
The quick (to explain) way is through pressing TAB key while in game.
Both these answers are addressed in the FAQ at http://mame.net and at http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/ but the sites seem overloaded ATM. It will clear up at some point.
A different and longer (to explain) way to set up controls is with ctrlr ini files. Info on that is in docs\ctrlr.txt and http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mamecontrolini.htm If you do it this way, it's best not to do the TAB way too.
