Title: Custom controls for Tempest type cabinet
Post by: kcarey on March 29, 2008, 05:11:42 pm
I have a tempest cabinet that was converted into Ninja Gaiden, which I have recently gutted and turned into a Mame cabinet. I have built a very shoddy control panel out of wood which works decently and fits nicely, but my lack of skills and proper tools keep me from making a really nice one.

Has anyone here made custom controls for a Tempest type cabinet? I'm basically looking for advice, plans, maybe even someone who I could commission to possibly make me one :)

the best advice I can give you is give it a shot yourself.  making a control panel is not that difficult.  I have very limited woodworking skills, and even fewer tools.  I made mine using only a drill, jigsaw, and a dremel.

I have a Tempest style cabinet that I bought off of someone else.  I hacked together a control panel for it, but is far from being a "finished" cpanel.  It was made of mdf and just spray painted.  The front glass of the cab and the monitor set at the same angle as the profile of the cab.  I think that they should be more vertical.  I intend on repositioning these so that the angle allows the control panel to "set-back" inside the profile of the cabinet instead of hanging out the front.  Not sure if this makes since, but maybe from the pic below you can understand what I mean.  Post of a pic of your current panel to give us an idea of where you are heading with your project.
