Title: Tools for deleting foreign ROMS (consoles)
Post by: Cero21 on March 29, 2008, 04:00:03 pm
Hi everyone,

I got full ROM sets of a couple consoles.  SNES, genesis extra.  But I'm looking for a tool that will automatically delete everything that isn't USA as I want to unclutter my lists.  Is there anything out that will do this?  I looked at GoodSNES but I think that is just going to audit my roms.  I want those foreign ones gone.

Thanks in advance.

Use CLRMamePro (I think that's the name?) and this:
http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=5071&hl=clrmame

Essentially, you point CLRMame Pro to the DAT you downloaded (e.g. for Genesis), then do a "rebuild" - point the program to the source folder (e.g. c:\GoodGenesis) and then to a new folder (e.g. c:\CleanGenesis). You'll end up with only single ROMs, primarily US but EU if not available and JP failing that.

Otherwise... if you just want to get rid of roms from a certain language, search for "(J)" in your ROM folder, and delete all the results.

this will do exactly what you want

http://www.allgoodthings.us/mambo/

google how to use it or read the forums, I ran them on all my rom sets and had it weed out non US roms

This tool:

http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=640

Is great for when you have all the roms you want to then remove all the [ U], [!] ect from them

Thanks for  the replies everyone.

I tried CLRMamePro with the dat files but none of my roms were recognized?  Oh well.

Anyways, I used Goodtools with the GoodGUI (wow they really don't include much documentation!).

Simply ran the "rename dir" command on my roms and it sorted them into different categories (by regions plus other stuff).  After that I kept the USA directory and threw out everything else.  There are still some copies of a couple games (diff versions) but it beats having like 20 versions of the same game for every game like before.  Reduced my SNES dir from 16 gigs to 1 gig.

So in conclusion, despite having no documentation and no GUI (without GoodGUI) goodtools worked out.

hit the start button in windows, the  choose run
type cmd then hit enter
im assuming you know a bit of dos commands so change your directory to your roms
once your there you can type del *(j)*.*      then hit enter
what that does is delete all your japanese roms
again im gonna assume your roms are named like mines are for example afterburner 2 is named After Burner II (U) [!]
that (u) means its a usa game, the (j) means its a japanese game, and i think (e) is the euro game and (g) is german.  need any help msg me

I have been looking for the same thing and came up with this:

http://www.allgoodthings.us/mambo/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=1848&catid=8

Itīs called UnGoodMerge and actually works pretty good, takes about 5 minutes for a complete set to get what you want. Went from 11000 something to 931 SNES roms :)
