Hey guys and gals...still struggling along with mamewah and would really like some more help please :banghead:
I am trying to install custom skins that i got from CPV...I read in the wiki about installation but hit a few snags.
1) I don't seem to have a \layout folder in mamewah....no problem, can do that. Just to make sure i did it right i made a folder called \layout\mame, and thats where i put the .lay files, correct?
2) Call me silly but i can't find the ###MISC OPTIONS### to then adjust the line that says layout and make it point to this folder.
Where is this located? Under the cfg folder, docs or files folder? Or is it a read me in my main folder of mamewah that is called simply config settings.
Have i got all this right. In doing these steps will it add a different background. Thanking all who help...

Here's (http://www.divshare.com/download/3417344-003) a package that contains some emulators along with mamewah set up and ready to go.

Hey gonzo..i think you have already given me this link. I was very impressed thank you, i do however have my current mamewah running ok...(except the above problem of course) and would really like it if i could get it up and running.
Don't think im not greatful, i am, but want the current software i am using to work, rather than having to start afresh....(i'm a bit anal like that) Any chance you still wanna help out :-\

IIRC you are using the latest version (v1.62final) of Mamewah, if so then things have changed a little since v1.61 which I think the instructions you have read were intended for...
To have a Mame-specific layout, you need to create a folder within \mamewah\config\mame. This folder should be named with your 'theme name'. Then the layout file and images etc. should be placed within this folder. From config.txt (bold is what you are interested in):
Layout Files (all except logo & sounds should be in same folder as .lay file):
\config\emuname\themename\layout-0.lay
\config\emuname\themename\layout.lay
\config\emuname\layout-0.lay
\config\emuname\layout.lay
\config\layout.lay
Note: xxx is used below instead of file extension. BMP, GIF (non-animated!), JPG, JPEG, PCX and PNG files can be used.
\config\emuname\themename\main-0.xxx (main/options/message/logo)
\config\emuname\themename\main.xxx
\config\emuname\main-0.xxx
\config\emuname\main.xxx
\config\main.xxx
\config\emuname\themename\art?-0.xxx
\config\emuname\themename\art-0.xxx
\config\emuname\themename\art?.xxx
\config\emuname\themename\art.xxx
\config\emuname\art?-0.xxx
\config\emuname\art-0.xxx
\config\emuname\art?.xxx
\config\emuname\art.xxx
\config\art?.xxx
You can do this for your other emulators too - use the same 'theme name' for the folder within \mamewah\config\emuname. Finally in mamewah.ini you need to set the name of the theme - this is the 'theme name' you have used, just the name of the folder and not the whole path.

Sorry jardine. It was late last night, and I was about to go to bed. It was just a lazy answer by my part.

No stress my man......Minwah....still struggling a bit with what you highligheted. I am guessing i have to change these but to what. The files i am trying to get working are are:
01mame.lay, 01mame-main. These are the two main ones i need i am guessing. One is the .lay file to get it going and the other is obviously the custom skin. I put these and some others (unzipped) in a folder called skins under \config\mame... below is where i am having trouble.
Layout Files (all except logo & sounds should be in same folder as .lay file):
\config\mame\skins\01mame.lay
\config\mame\skins\01mame.lay
\config\emuname\layout-0.lay
\config\emuname\layout.lay
\config\layout.lay
Note: xxx is used below instead of file extension. BMP, GIF (non-animated!), JPG, JPEG, PCX and PNG files can be used.
\config\mame\skins\01mame-main.jpeg (main/options/message/logo)
\config\mame\skins\01mame-main.jpeg
\config\emuname\main-0.xxx
\config\emuname\main.xxx
\config\main.xxx
\config\mame\skins\art?-0.jpeg
\config\mame\skins\art-0.jpeg
\config\mame\skins\art?.jpeg
\config\mame\skins\art.jpeg
\config\emuname\art?-0.xxx
\config\emuname\art-0.xxx
\config\emuname\art?.xxx
\config\emuname\art.xxx
\config\art?.xxx
\config\art.xxx
\config\art.xxx
Is this right....and my mamewah.ini looks like this...:
### Misc Settings ###
emulator_root_path
auto_setup_emulators 0
theme skins
wrap_list 0
remember_current_game 1
keep_image_aspect 1
Have i listed the this right or am i wayyyyyyy off. Are they supposed to be listed twice like i have done? Thanx....
-
If you're only using one theme this is what your folder should look like.
(http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/thumbs/small/1169126_a2tfq/layoutstructure.JPG) (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/view/full/1169126_a2tfq)
Notice the naming of the files.

Very similar.....no text/cfg files like yours i.e. mame, mame-0...or folder called game. Just these files:
01mame.lay, 01mame-art1, 01mame-art2, 01mame-main, 01mame-message, 01mame-options
Should i change these to be just, mame.lay....art2.....main....etc. Similar to yours? Will this help?
How about how i have set it out in the cfg text file. Do these look right? How many paths do i need to change and to what? Do i have them correct?
PS: Thanx Gonzo...had enough sleep...hehe :P
-
Tonight I get to sleep a little past my bedtime. ;D
mame.lay = layout.lay
01mame-art1= art1
01mame-main =main
etc.etc...
Very similar.....no text/cfg files like yours i.e. mame, mame-0.
Those files are the ones that contain all the info on the emulator. Back in 1.61 they used to be in a seperate folder. Now all the layout and cfg files share the same folder just like in the pic.
-
Those cfg files are in my mamewah\config\mame folder..i then made a seperate folder containing my artwork which is in mamewah\config\mame\skins...
Does this mean that i should move my cfg files into skins...will it really matter...?
-
All the files should be in the same folder. All your artwork should be in mamewah\config\mame along with your cfg files which i'm guessing are your ini files right?
-
Ok...well...this part seemed to be the problem:
\config\mame\skins\01mame-main.jpeg (main/options/message/logo)
\config\mame\skins\01mame-main.jpeg
\config\emuname\main-0.xxx
\config\emuname\main.xxx
\config\main.xxx
Once i changed this to read this:
\config\mame\skins\main.jpeg (main/options/message/logo)
\config\mame\skins\options.jpeg
\config\mame\message.jpeg
\config\emuname\main.xxx
\config\main.xxx
BOOM....it worked.....yeah...so so happy.
All the files should be in the same folder. All your artwork should be in mamewah\config\mame along with your cfg files which i'm guessing are your ini files right?
My files are no where near the same folder. My artwork (screenshots) is in mame...not mamewah and all i have in the cfg folder is what is said. The mame.cfg's, \game and \skins...
NOW........if i wanted to change custom skins, would i just delete the current skin and replace it with a new on, or can these work side by side if i name the all differently??

What I meant by this is all files related to mamewah.

Yes if you're only using one skin you can just replace it with a new one. If you wan't different themes then you have to use Minwah's structure posted above.

They can work together. 'skins' is the name of your current theme, so just make a similar folder called something else to have another theme.
