I think maybe one of you may know the answerer to this question. I am sure someone has come up against it before.
I got a new computer. When I turn it on it comes to the window where you choose witch user to logon using the icon. When turned on there is one icon for login account and it is Administrator. I do not want it to do that. I want it to automatically “logon” and go directly to the desktop. How do I do that? I know it is possible as my laptop, desktop, moms, aunts, and other computers I know all do it.
I have searched BYOAC with no luck either. That is not saying it is not there I just may not be looking for the right thing. I may be searching for the wrong thing. I searched to login, automatic login, and autologin.
I have searched many places and even tried to call tech support for Dell but they were no help. The people I talked to had no idea what I was talking about. They said to call Microsoft. Microsoft said they can not help as the computer was bought through a vender and the vender is the only one who is supposed to provide tech support. I tried to search the Microsoft web site but came up with nothing. Updates and updating the security does not matter it will not be going on the internet.

On my system I used TweakUI which has a setting in there which will automatically log you on.

I use this as well.

I'll third TweakUI. However, I have encountered a few situations where it wouldn't keep the setting that I selected. I had to go to the Start Menu > Run > enter "control userpasswords2" without the quotes, then update it there.

Here is a method that doesn't require TweakUI

In windows XP the only thing you need to do is ensure there is one and only one user account besides administrator that has no password associated with it. It will boot straight to windows.

This is the way to go for you. it'll take you probably 60 seconds.
Type "control userpasswords2" into the "run" box, this will bring up the advanced user menu. Select the user account you want and click the box for login automatically. click ok and you are done. I wouldn't bother finding and installing software for this.

"control userpasswords2"
So simple it makes me feel stupid. Thanks

I don't know why people are getting so complicated with all of this just go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > User Accounts > Change an Account > Click on one that I believe is called "ASP .net" (something along those lines) > Delete the Account
Just trying to dumb it down a little bit...no run commands to remember ;D
