Title: Anyone build there own furniture?
Post by: lordtodd75 on March 26, 2008, 12:28:06 pm
I will be moving into my new home on Friday and I think instead of buying new furniture I would like to try my hand at building some. I guess the first two things that come to mind are an entertainment center and possibly a video game console cabinet.

My question is, does anyone know of a good source for free/cheap furniture plans. Maybe you have plans of your own you would like to share?

Hopefully soon I will be able to add a post or two to the gameroom thread

Thats generally a good source for free plans, although the few furniture pieces that I built I mainly just looked around at local stores to see some examples, then made up my own plans.

You might also want to buy a few cheapo/thrashed pieces from your local thrift stores, which can yield you a lot of hardware and springs and other bits.

Depends how elaborate you want to be.

Springs?  For the cabinets i would think the only parts needed aside from wood and screws are hinges, glass for a door, maybe metal braces for support, and magnetic door lock things so they stay closed unless you apply the force to open them.
