I have an LCD monitor that needs a new inverter board.
Before I open it up, are there any rules of thumb to prevent death (like being careful with the anode on a CRT)?

Nope just don't break the screen. ;D
And the inverter produces high voltage...... so don't play with it with the power on.
Otherwise it's just little screws and tabs, etc. (carefully)

Only real thing to watch out for in terms of zapping you other than the CCFL inverter board (which only outputs HV when it's on) is the input filter cap if the monitor operates directly off 120V and doesn't use an external wall wart. These will get charged up to 200V or so (for 120V North American power, about 340V for 240V power) and can deliver a rather nasty bite if you hit them. Nothing like a CRT anode, mind you, but it'll hurt. Most power supplys should have bleeder resistors on these nowadays, but best to just stay away if possible.
