Post by: javeryh on March 25, 2008, 04:43:57 pm
I just scored 2 tickets to the Camden show on June 19.  I'm trying for the two MSG shows tomorrow!!!

Anyone else going?

Is it the original band, or just Eddie Vedder + random backup.

Cool!  I havent' seen them in concert for years, but they always put on a good show.  Back in the 90's, I saw them play at least a dozen times (I live in Seattle at the time - still do), and have seen them at several other venues since then.  I'm not a huge fan of their later work, but I do like Eddie's solo album / soundtrack for Into the Wild....

Back in the day I went to see the Chilli Peppers.

They had two unknown openers;

Pearl Jam

Smashing Pumpkins

Now I'm dating myself.

Pearl Jam's magnum opus was "Ten".  Anything after that was just sub-par.

"Ten" was awesome...  first CD I ever bought, along with Alice In Chains "Dirt"

Opening act:  Axl Rose with random backup.

It is the original band.  I just scored tickets to see them twice in NYC too!!!

Also, out of their 8 studio CDs, I'd rank "Ten" 6th or 7th best (it's still great though).

On a related note, the tickets are for the June 35th.

Now I really feel old. :(

Ten was great but I'm not a huge PJ fan.  I can relate though as my wife and I have tickets to see The Police in May.  ;D

And if you like Pearl Jam, you might like Temple of the Dog.  Same lead singer.

I think Chris Cornell was the lead.  So if you like Temple of The Dog, you might also like Soundgarden or Audioslave.  ;)

They split the lead...  Hungerstrike was sung mostly by Vedder...

I HATE THAT SONG.  Seriously.  One of the most annoying songs ever recorded.  Worse than that stupid milkshake song.

I wasn't trying to say that Vedder didn't sing.  I just always considered Cornell to be the lead.  I'm old and have a terrible memory though...   :)

Yep, Temple of the Dog was essentially a PJ / Soundgarden mashup as a tribute to fallen seattle music scene Andrew Wood from Mother Love Bone.  2 of the founding members of Pearl Jam were former members of Mother Love Bone (Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament).  If you ever get a chance to hear MLB's This is Shangrila or Stardog Champion you'll hear a lot of the "sound" that MLB took on, as well as the evolution of the sound that influenced both PJ and Soundgarden.

My favorite song on the album is "Say Hello 2 Heaven"

EDITED: meant to read "temple of dog" not MLB in first line...stupid brain not making my fingers type right

Mad Season was another good band around that time, consisting of members from Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Screaming Trees...
