Hi all. I'm new to the forum.
I just scored an asteroids deluxe in very nice condition for $10 :o ;D! Yes $10, at a garage sale. What a steal! It plays blind, but my monitor won't fire up. The yoke doesn't light up and the spot killer is not on. After doing some research I've concluded the problem is probably in the high voltage cage. When I inspected it I saw some new caps and resistors, so I'm hoping a rebuild kit has been installed. The HV diode looks like it has darkened so its' suspect. Once I figure out how to safely discharge the monitor, I will test the diode. There is also a long square white resistor (I think) that looks kind of brittle, so it could make a open circuit if its bad. Does this sound like the most logical place to start? Can someone with more experience than myself give me some insight and let me know if I'm headed in the right direction? Any common problems I should check?
thanks,
Scott

If you get no neck glow than yep the HV is the place to be. It's possible the transformer is bad but they don't go nearly as often as the color vector transformers.

I happen to have a G05-801 for an asteroids game with the same problem. Lets just assume it is the transformer for a second. Is the transformer swapable from the 801 to the 802?

I'm jealous that you found a cab for $10. :hissy:
