Title: Sanyo 20-EZV Question
Post by: barrel_hopper on March 24, 2008, 07:52:20 pm
Ok I have done a few searches but I am new to this hobby so I am trying to get a more simple explination. I will keep studying till some of the harder stuff makes sense.

I am converting a Popeye cabinet to full DK Glory and I want to wire the cabinet for JAMMA. I may go with a monitor that does not require an isolation transformer.

If I decide to use the Sanyo monitor what do I need to do to use the isolation trans with my JAMMA harness?

Also does any one have a diagram on where to wire a non inverted video signal from like a 48 in 1 board?

Perhaps someone has some links to good info I have been overlooking.

Thanks for the help on clearing this up guys.

Also this question is pretty obvious but how many of you discharge a monitor before removing it?

The isolation transformer has nothing to do with the JAMMA harness. It's part of the power supply that should already be in the bottom of the cabinet. Leave the monitor power wired just the way it is and you should be fine. (the outlet/plug in the bottom of the cab) Those are 100v monitors btw.

Does your Sanyo have the INVERTER board ?

Yes It does have that board...I did not notice that on my DK JR Cabinet but my Popeye monitor has it....also what about discharging the monitor? What are the parts that are dangerous? It is just the anode wire? If the wire is insulated what is dangerous about it?

What do I need to know concerning the inverter board?

when operating , crt anode voltages are around 20kv for 19'" and under and up to 31kv on the 25"+.
on some chassis,  voltage remains long after power is removed.
the reason to discharge should be evident . do you REALLY want to come in contact with several thousand volts ?
think of the worst static charge you have ever had multiply by 10.

its a safety/handling precaution .  if u get in the habit of discharging 1st , it will reduce the nasty surprises !
i usually connect the gnd braid to the anode button if its gonna set awhile  and /or discharge when ever working around the anode .

been workin on tvs for many years , and still get bit once in awhile.
fyi, it takes approx 10kv to jump an air gap of 1".  (granted , this value WILL vary with humidity, etc...)
